Best engine to install in 1974 Karmen Ghia

Going Subaru for my 1974 Karmen Ghia.Turbo or not? Will have a VW transaxle built for extra torque/H.P. Will install plate to bolt engine/trans. Which engine would be best for this conversion. Thanks

Has to be a turbo really... non-turbo's are pretty woeful tbh and almost a thirsty as the turbo version during normal driving, something like 3mpg better on a non-turbo... if you're going through the hassle of a conversion it wants to be a worthwhile one.

As for which one... 2.0L turbo... all the blocks are the same only differences are the heads and on newer version STI's AVCS and coil packs are different throughout the various model years.

I'd speak to Mattyb the breaker on here, he'll have everything you need and be able to give you all the required information.

I wouldn't have thought it'd be wise to go too mental. Too much power in one of them and it'll be undriveable :lol1:

Why do that to a Karmen Ghia?
It is like having a Halfords Menu on a 22B.
Another icon bites the dust.

Because I have no engine for the Ghia. A 2110 VW engine or Type 4 (BUS/914) costs more than a Subaru conversion, After-market cooling (DTM)and exhaust (A-1 Exhaust), dual carbs (Weber 44's)alone are close to $2500-$3000 not counting machine work and necessary clearancing. Plus, I do not trust most Chinese parts that are in the VW market.High maintenance and longevity are also issues to be taken into consideration.
