06 wrx limp mode/ flatspot

Me being the idiot I am have bought a wrx in limp mode! I have seen many other threads like this but none have managed to cure the fault with my wrx.

the car has no go at all in it, disconnecting and resetting the ecu seems to allow the car drive around 90% for about 10 mins or so then it bogs back down and go's back into limp mode with no CEL or strange noises.

I have proved the MAF signal back to the ecu,
replaced the front o2 sensor due to finding damaged wires and finding the sensor body slightly damaged.
checked for obvious exhaust, vacuum and boost leaks.
and I plan to change the spark plugs tomorrow even though the car has FSH so shouldn't have been done too long ago.

Does anyone have any further suggestions or can suggest a good garage in the South Wales area that would be able to see what exactly is going on with it.

Thanks in advance guys!

Totally standard car?
You got a boost gauge to see what boost you're getting?

The previous owner said the only mod he was aware of was the prodrive exhaust which I'm assumeing is cat-back. And no there is no boost gauge so no way of telling

So possibly overboosting causing the ecu to go into limp.
Or detting badly causing the ecu to pull loads of timing.

Have any of the boost pipes been replaced with new ones and is the restrictor pill still in place?

Adamlowe96 28 July 2017 08:33 PM

I will check for the restrictor pill now is it in the pipe from the t-piece to the small pipe on the outlet of the turbo on these?

ossett2k2 28 July 2017 08:55 PM

Yes should be in the t-piece

Adamlowe96 28 July 2017 09:19 PM

From what I can feel restrictor pill is still in the pipe I didn't take it off to visually check as the weather is awful here, apart from changing the plugs tomorrow is there anything else to check or would it be best to take it to a mapper?

A mapper isn't going to be cheap and probably a waste of money if the car has a fault, take it to a Subaru specialist garage if you need to.
Personally I would get a cheap vag-com data cable and download romraider that way you will be able to datalog which is a great tool to have.
You might as well give the boost solenoid a clean while your doing the plugs.

good idea! I hadn't really thought of getting the cable and data logging myself. I have already cleaned and proved the boost solenoid I forgot to mention that in my earlier post. As for the specialist I'm yet to find a good one.
