Some spark plug advice required please.

Hi All,

Completely standard STI WR1 running around 320 bhp.

Recently ordered multiple parts to give the car a full service. As part of that order I asked for spark plugs. On receipt of the order I noted that the plug type supplied was NGK LASER PLATINUM PFR7B (4853) Spark plugs?

The manual I have states I should use NGK ILFR6B (6481) -Laser Iridium Spark Plug - Platinum Ground Electrode.

I removed an old plug today to check what was installed which was PFR6B. Don’t know much about what the numbers actually mean in relation to the plugs. :wonder:

What would be the best plugs to use?

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Stick the PFR7b`s in, the 7 is a cooler running plug but many fit these on standard cars, the IL code is iridium, the PF is platinum, 6 is the standard , 7 is the cooler running.

Thanks Stig. Will the 7 's give better performance than the 6's?

No.lol

AS Performance 29 July 2017 08:41 AM

the ILFR is the "long reach" variant suited to the later 2.5 head and totally wrong!!

do NOT fit ILFR's to an earlier 2.0 is it requires the "short reach" PFR style plug

Thank you very much AS Performance for the additional information.

Sorry, slightly off topic: Again; thank you for yesterday pertaining to the drivetrain question not only for the parts provided but for the detailed explanation given. I have been driving Subaru’s for about 17 years now & during that time I have never spoke to anyone who is willing to take the time out in the way you do to help others with far less knowledge for very little financial gain. Alyn you are a true Gentleman & please keep up the Sterling work as there are very few like you left.

Sincerely, Cheers Paul:thumb:
