3" Exhaust System

I have a Hawkeye WRX estate MY06 and I have just bought a 3" turb back exhaust system. I want to leave the cat on so does anyone know if the 3" system will marry up to the original downpipe from the turbo...?

Depends you can buy 2 types of 3" systems. Mine is 3" all the way though to the flange that meets the down pipe. Some narrow to 2.5" at the flange that meets the down pipe. If you have 3" all the way though, then no it will not mate up to your original down pipe.

Pictures may help though.

No problem. What 3" cat back system did you by?

its a turbo back Toyosport 3" system.....got it cheap so thought it would sound better than the standard system

Oh yes I've had one of those. Never fitted it though. New or used?

I picked up a toyosport pipe for my 350z and ran it with high flow cats and considering the price it actually sounded pretty decent. I believe they are made in the Japspeed factory and are just re-branded. Only problem is fitment was awful. It's real pot luck with toyo, some fit OK, others, like mine, are miles off, smack on the car and need loads of heating and bending to make fit. I ended up paying more in labour to fit it than I did for the exhaust system.

Yeah that looks 3" all the way though. That won't join up to your up pipe. Your options are an adaptor 2.5" to 3" on the down pipe, which i think is a waste of time as defeats the point of a 3" bore system as the down pipe will restrict it.

If you wanted to fit the exhaust, i'd recommend a 200 cell 3" sports cat. Looks like an ebay exhaust, i had one on my Impreza back in the day and there a poor fit, there made to fit both classic's and Newage Impreza's but fit Newage better, don't think gear box mount lined up on my classic.

Another option is sell and buy a 2.5" bore system, i'm sure Matty will have some in stock.
