Removing Inlet Manifold on V1
To replace the Alloy crossover pipe 0 Rings, anything to know about in advance ?
ive ordered ne wO rings and inlet gaskets , only thing im worried about is bolts shearing off etc . Easy enough job, looks a bit of a phaf but guessing i can leave things like ICV, throttle body etc on the manifold. Was going to fit spacers as well but in all fairness, not convinced by the cooling gains to make any real difference cheers |
Yes be worried about the bolts shearing.

wondeing if using a blow torch on them will help , but being alloy not sure
|
Wouldn't be putting a blow torch anywhere near them.
|
Yeah that's my thought as well
Think I will just drive the thing Let it get nice and warm then remove the bolts etc and go from there , hoping it's straight forward , doesn't look too hard , fair few hoses , clips and off it comes lol |
The last 2 times I've removed crossover pipes I've had no issues removing the bolts.
I doubt they will snap, steel bolts in an alloy block are more prone to galling. Heat is a good idea, hot air gun maybe? |
ok cheers bud, good to hear a positive for a change lol
im hoping the engine heat will be enough , looking at it, its the little things like injector lines that im not looking forward to ,i have replaced the injectors in the past and hated it lol cheers |
No need to remove the injectors, just unplug and remove the fuel lines. :thumb:
|
I've sheered a bolt on the crossover before PITA. The only thing I can suggest is giving the socket a few taps before turning.

Well , I removed the inlet manifold , the drivers side was most awkward , power steering lines etc etc anyhoo , removed 3 of the 4 Alloy crossover bolts , all going well then the 4th , it didn't feel right , springy , like you know it's twisting not undoing lol.
Well I think I got a turn or 2 of it then crack lol https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.sco...5c97968b13.jpg https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.sco...95414b1e66.png Bugger lol |
well its all back together and running, a job I wouldnt want to do again
No water leak but I now have what looks like oil seeping from around where the alloy pipe joins the O rings lol, Oil ?!?!?!?!?!? Anyhoo im hoping its residue from say WD40 I put into the thread holes or the copper grease melting etc as otherwise im stumped on that one, good old Jap engines failing that im burning the car ha |
