with G hooks you will get the noise associated any type grooved disk, like a constant hum.

I have Ian's standard grooved discs with PF pads. The discs are around 3 years old and done 8k miles so looking at what replacements are out there. The G hooks are different, not sure if he does them in a two piece unit as well?
Just looking for some people's experience with them.

I run the G-hook 2 piece.
It's with the older style scoobyclinic 6 pots, unfortunately I'm forced to use yellow stuff pads, which aren't too bad I suppose but my options are very limited(might get some made next time or get different calipers? )
Also had to have the rotor made which didn't come cheap!

My only problem with the setup, and a presume it must be the G hook patern is I have a very annoying clicking when I brake, sounds like I have a lollipop stick in my spokes(memory's of being a kid lol)
I may just be my whole setup but when I get time I will try and lightly skim/smooth out the rotor surface to see if the annoying noise goes.

I have the G-hook one-piece ones on my Foz, don't get any noise with their kevlar pads. This is with the standard 2-pots.

Noise I am used too, the PF pads sound awful when cold.

Our G hook discs won't cause any clicking noises , something else is amiss there , I find the G hook discs quieter in use than our 6 groove discs.
The G hook discs on my everyday vehicle don't make any noise with the Kevlar pads

Ian, I see from your website that 2 piece discs with the 6 vents are £350. Do you make two piece with G hooks? Could you provide a price along with how much a replacement G hook disc would be there after?

I assume the pattern is similar to the AP just the material, inner vents may be different.

I can't think what else the noise would be? The only thing I changed were the rotors and new yellow stuff pads, the old setup were the same pad but with a standard grove pattern rotor.

The G hook are the same price , £350 a pair , when you need new rotors , they are £275 a pair inc a set of nuts and bolts , these prices ones have straight vanes , we also offer a race / rally spec disc with curved vanes but are £45 more

Sounds like the pad vibrating or moving in the caliper , bend the spring clips that hold the pads in place so they hold them firmer

Are there performance/thermal benefits to 2 piece? Seems cheaper to replace with your 1 piece when they need changing?

ossett2k2 07 June 2017 02:22 PM

Ok thanks for the advice Ian I shall see if bending the clips works, hope so as it's doing my head in.

A few benefits using 2 piece discs , they are lighter so less unsprung weight , the alloy bell will dissipate heat out of the disc quicker than an all iron disc , and as the rotor heats and expands , it can move very slightly from the bell so less likely to distort and run out.

2 piece discs are better for the harder drive , or those doing track days , or race and rally , but then we find people also get good use out of our 1 piece discs .

Cheers Ian

I've got the g hooks back and front worked amazing!!!!! noise isnt a bother you won't notice it, grooved discs are deffo louder.

i say worked because it worked great in the beginning for a few months and then i started to get the brake judder, thought it was pads so ordered some more (the kevlar pads that come in the g/j hook package Godspeed do) had it changed but the problem stayed. Tried the bedding process as advised but still didn't help. maybe this is just my car though.

anytime when I'm braking over 60mph I'm shaken like a salt shaker! never had this problem with plain discs so switching back to plain ones this weekend to see if any change!

My lad has them, from Ian, on his Megane F1R26. Loves them and no appreciable noise.

I use there g hook single disc and kevlar pads don't have any issues think there great no noise don't suffer with break dust as bad as I use to either would highly recommend:)

Sorry for the hijack.....
Looking at the combo on god speeds website for 294/290mm discs for a classic.
Are they designed for a 170mm or 190mm handbrake?

Again,sorry for the hijack..

Sorry to revive this old thread...
Would the g-hooks be able to handle track use? (very hot temps.. ambient temp can be 35º).
