Back on the road after being in storage for 11 years

Took it off the road in 2006 as I got an X5 as it suited family life better, kids, dogs, etc.

Stuck the Impreza in my heated garage and it only came out onto the drive every few months to give the engine a bit of a run. Had a few bits and pieces fitted while tucked away, but now back on the road, and MOT'd with no advisories - 1997 car (V3) with 56k miles and I've had it since 1999.

Took a bit of getting used to after driving quick comfortable cars for the last 11 years instead, think I'm back in the groove now though :)

Nice to see prices of the classics starting to rise.

Is that a WRX STI? Paint work looks amazing. Very clean Impreza well done.

Skoobie Dhu 31 May 2017 10:47 PM

Thanks for the comments, over the years I often wondered if it was special enough to tuck away and not use, but now it's on the road again I'm glad I did. Yes it's a V3 STi, imported new into the U.K. by one of the managers of the RAC, and apparently SVA'd or prepared for SVA by Prodrive.
Standard engine except for K&N, 3" downpipe, decat and scoobysport rear box, but just before i took it off the road in 2006 it managed a very respectable 326 bhp on the rolling road on Vpower and a bottle of octane booster.

That looks incredibly clean and tidy. Very nice! :)

That car looks in the sort of condition were photos don't do it justice. Lovely looking car.

It's the right kind of special tbh. Not rare enough that you don't want to use it but rare enough that it's a bit different and a cool car to have lying around. Very nice. :thumb:

Just goes to show not using a car and storing away pays off. Plus when you don't drive it as much each drive is more special.

That's a fantastic wagon, and I suspect an absolute breath of fresh air given the lack of character in new cars these days :thumb:

banny sti 01 June 2017 10:02 AM

Being version 3 sti with a decat, I would get it remapped sooner or rather than later, the timing map is pretty aggressive and will probably run lean at the top ned

Cambs_Stuart 01 June 2017 10:57 AM

Really, really nice. Good on you for keeping it in such great condition.

BrownPantsRacing 01 June 2017 11:24 AM

WOW that's lovely.

ComputerSystems 01 June 2017 11:43 AM

When I took it off the road in 2006 I had intended to remove and rebuild the engine with some mods to ensure the engine was good and strong, but just before it came off the road I went to a local owners club day at a rolling road, the results surprised a lot of folk that day given its relatively stock - so I decided the engine was pretty good and didn't need me mucking about with it. According to the RR chart it was running a bit on the rich side at the top end.

Wow 326bhp standard. That is impressive, i wouldn't touch it. Standard ones will go up in price like a rocket. Just keep it garaged and drive it as a weekend summer car and sit back and smile as the price goes up.

looks awesome!!!

Pffffft, yeah just let it sit in a garage whilst you get old and your back crumbles. Dont enjoy it, just look at it. :thumb:

jaygsi 07 June 2017 12:17 AM

Trust you to pipe up. Look how clean that classic is, worth looking after.

Ha ha, you know im just messing.
I honestly think its a waste to keep it and not enjoy it tho. I can understand looking after something you cherish, mine is my pride and joy. But think you can go too far and devote more energy to just preserving something than actually getting any enjoyment out of it. Unfortunately these cars have a life expectancy and its not too long, enjoy them while you can!
