Looking to get a track car, I've been looking for a cheap sports hatch, I've seen a few without mot, which would make a perfect track car, my question is do i need an mot for track use, I've looked on some sites but they seem quite vague. Any help would be great thanks.

I would say yes if it's a public track day, rather than a closed, private one. But will vary from track to track.

It would be with other cars been on a few track day sites and say nothing about what condition car has to be in. One said something like road worth condition, but nothing bout mot.

If i was you id look for an early ep3 type r. Seen few around £1500 mark. Absolute toy on track and pretty much bomb proof engine. Clio 172/182 another option if you under 6ft tall :thumb:

Unless you've got deep pockets, don't start with a scooby for a dedicated track car IMO. They weigh loads, and because of this they will cost loads more to run than something lighter weight.

There's a reason there are loads of clio sports at every track day.

Nah I wouldn't go for scooby, parts aren't cheap. Compared to other cars and it's just a track car, want something not bothered about getting damaged. So looking for rough examples. Good engine but tatty body work or damaged panels. And no mot, seen a few going cheap

What's the budget? I'm selling a decent spec bug sti currently running a gt30 @ 1 bar do circa 350-400bhp

No you don't need a mot providing you intend on taking it on a trailer, as for decent track day car you want something which is cheap to work on reliable and in my opinion non turbo

I owned a mk3 16v golf gti as a track car , and it was 100% reliable with even 178k on the clock.

spend the money on decent brakes , suspension set up and make it as light as poss and 150bhp + is actually more than enough fun

Have a look on piston heads some times you'll get people selling a "track day package "

When you do eventually get yourself ready to do a track day forget the dis- used airfield ones like Abingdon for example ( they are quite restrictive with loads of rules- the big circuits are much more relaxed and you can get into some real racing )go for the big circuits donnington park is amazing

Last one I did was around £140 you want to book " open pit " days otherwise it'll be timed sessions rather than open pit which means you can get on/off track all day

Budget around £300 for the whole day , fuel there n back food entry etc etc

Me and my best mate shared ownership of the car and split the costs down the middle making it much easier on our wallets

Plus scaring the **** out of each other when the other one was driving is priceless

Are most tracks around the UK open to the public then? Ive done like an organsied track day the britsol and bath scoobys at castle combe which was class open pit and only 11/12 cars on at a time. Better than shows etc where theres like 1000 cars at once.

Be nice to just get abit more info on track days etc!

Yeh pretty much just go online and they usual publish dates plus it means you get a cool mix of different cars
