Opinions on a Ford Fiesta Ecoboost?
 

Hi all,

Was wondering what people thought of the fiesta ecoboost's as on paper they don't seem bad cars for a daily driver but have heard mixed reviews about them.

It's difficult to find out some information about them regarding reliability as some people will say they're brilliant and others have reported gearbox's breaking and other reliability issues.

The tuning capabilities do seem interesting with the ability to tune them up to 200hp with bolt ons but I'm unsure currently if this will result in the gearbox/engine breaking.

If anyone owns one here please share you're experiences.

Don't know much about them, but small turbo charged engine will give good mpg if drove nicely. I don't see the point of mapping it to 200bhp, can only imagine the stress on such a small engine can only course problems, unless forged engine etc.

That's what Pumaspeed did on they're demo car which is apparently still running fine on standard internals.

I have a 1.0 ecoboost (titanium spec, 3 door, 99 bhp version). It is genuinely a fantastic car and a brilliant engine / drivetrain. Forget the old 1.25 Zetec lumps which a lot of people seem to compare it to, they are totally different. What makes it good is that it's just as good cruising on the motorway as it is around town, thanks to the long gearing. At 70mph, in 5th gear, it sits well under 2.5k and is pretty brisk. I've had mine for a year now and have absolutely no intention of selling it. Parts are cheap, insurance is nothing, it's a nice place to sit, comes with loads of gear, and the best thing is......0 tax, which is now no longer an option on any car. I genuinely believe cars that sit in this 3-4 year period of £0 tax will start commanding a premium soon because of that exact reason.

In regards to tuning, I'm not really to clued up as mine is (and will be staying) standard. However, I did see a company the other day get another 50bhp and good lump of torque from a simple remap

Ap tuning in Norwich have one closer to 400 bhp.not sure if the spec but id imagine it's fairly quick.

my missues has my11 1.6 ecoboost focus titanium, (we should buy X version
tuned it from 140 to 172 and no way it will push 200
would not do remap only now,better to fit new turbo and intercooler before
front strugle to cope with that power ,it is on 18" 235mm wide tyres
much preffer 4wd
cruising 160km it takes 8.5l per 100km
short trips to work , computer shows 10l
gearbox is excellent so smooth,steering to, heated windscreen etc
brakes surprised me , are better in town than wrx with ap cp9040 362mm

I had a 1.0 Ecoboost as a hire car on holiday and was suprisingly fun. Good brakes, nippy enough on b roads, fairly quiet, decent interior and kit and enough space for the family.
But I've heard (and experienced) enough issues about ford build quality that I wouldn't want to get one with many miles on it.

true ,powershift is crap, our is manual:thumb:
biggest issue is with heater matrix coolant leak including cracked coolant tank and common problem with thermostat leak-seal on thermostat housing.

1.0ecoboost is a nice engine, good to drive and doesn't have the NVH issues many 3cylinder engined cars have. But it's very heavy for a 3pot though; iron block, turbo, dual mass flywheel/balancer, so its almost the same weight as the 1.6 ecoboost, which kind of cancels outs the efficiency gains of a small cc engine, except during slow cruise and idling.

So fuel economy is very dependant on driving style; remapping to circa 200bhp would make that worse added to the fact you can get 200bhp from the 1.6 ecoboost, making tuning the 1.0 a bit pointless; just get the 1.6 instead!!

Heard a few stories about cylinder head issues, think its related to allowing the engine to overheat. It's a very highly stressed engine so like Subarus will pop a gasket at any hint of a overheating/air/coolant loss, add a numpty driver into the mix who'll keep driving instead of pulling over and then you then get forums full of people ranting about their wrecked engine, but that's only speculation, certainly something to keep an eye on though.

They also use 5w-20 oil so that should get the 10w-60 fans on here spitting their tea on the screen :lol1:

According to FB the fiesta is faster than even tuned evo's so go for it,,,, hahahaha

But if you tune the 1.6 you don't end up with 200bhp/L, which is quite frankly bonkers (and almost certainly going to lead to a fairly short lifespan) :lol1:

How long would it last?

I'm going to go with untill it has it's first brush with the rev limiter.

I had a Fiesta ST2 from new for almost 2 years - niggly problems such as leaking metal valves on wheels (7 times), sill lights, coolant leak, etc - kept it standard and it was fine.

I had a few other cars since then 2 months ago bought a 1 year old Fiesta 1.0 Ecoboost ZS.
This car is showing 44mpg around town, cost me £36 in Vpower after 3 weeks and is zero road tax :)
It's a very quiet car, no rattles (car done 10k), quite nippy for its 125bhp and the seats are comfy,
I'm looking at getting a Superchips Bluefin + K+N element (on offer at demontweeks for £332) which pushes power up to 154bhp and 247nm - http://www.mybluefin.co.uk/search?ma...1&variant=2870 which doesn't stress the engine as much as some remaps.

I guess for a cheap to run car these have to be considered, would i buy another - yes :)

Pumaspeed are local to me but i've read so many bad reviews about them that i wouldn't even think of going there (zetec s owners club forum)
