bearing noise

I've noticed a noisy bearing type noise from under the bonnet and I reckon it's the air con pump. Can I just cut the belt that runs it or is that a bit low tech? If not what's involved in removing it? Cheers for any info lads.

Yes you can cut if you don't want it or to test

any cons to cutting the belt off? can i unbolt and remove the tensioner as well? also wondered about unplugging the compressor connector as well?

any more experience of this lads? still not done it yet but wanna do it tom, was driving it today and its still whinning away. just want to rule it out quickly in case its the cam belt idlers as id get that changed right away for safety.

Sorry for late reply,

Are you just cutting it off to rule out the noise? Yes the ac belt is only for it so yes can remove, in fact you can remove the whole thing if you wanted (most do for weight saving lol)
But be careful of the gases out of the ac pipes when if you remove the motor, but for now yes just unplug the ac there are 2 plugs on the alternator loom, that might be better than cutting belt to find out it's not it making noise.

But you should be able to tell if it's the ac, lift bonnet, turn ac on and heaters on full and listen/look in bonnet? Unplug ac and see if noise goes etc

More than likely the a/c belt idler than the compressor.

cheers guys gonna cut it off. i never use the aircon anyway.

RetroGenGamer 28 May 2017 10:02 PM

was it your air con ? i had similar noise which turned out to be coming from my power steering, the ps resevoir appeared full but several lock to locks with the ps cap off and air bubbles came out and dropped the level, topped it up did more locks to locks and topped up again and sound went away.
