Red crackle paint ( inlet manifold )

I've been hunting high and low and talking to people about the red crackle paint but some say krypton or VHT but apparently they come up quick orange looking

Can anyone help point me in the right direction ?

Or even pics of what you've done to get the right colour :thumb:

Not heard of krypton paint but VHT stuff is really good. Don't forget you have to let it cure.

What paint colour are you after original classic or newage.

Original classic I'm after

Kryton - that was a typo

I had my local powder coaters do mine and I'd say it's nigh on a perfect match for the original finish.
I don't know what they used but could probably find out

The VHT stuff is a new recipe compared to what it originally was. It's poppy red almost orange. Been there, tried it, repainted it.

The picture below doesn't even come close to showing you how orange this is. Don't use it you'll be disappointed.

It takes time to cure thats why it looks a different colour. Not sure how long it takes to get to the proper colour but if its in the engine bay it should be getting enough heat.

Also the classic and newage are different colours. Not sure who does the classic one off the shelf but if your open to the newage colour you should be able to get that. If you were to powder coat can you get the textured effect not sure but never looked into it.

I'd give either of them 2 products a go but I'd be scared of it not looking as good as it could do if you got it powder coated.

I used VHT wrinkle plus red recently, it went on looking great and nice and deep red, a week later after being on the car it was bloody orange. It's a pita removing the manifold twice..

I spent ages looking at this for my Classic and didn't find anything that I thought was anywhere near the OEM finish...eventually got it powder coated Ferrari Red Crackle.

The powder coating will obviously last the test of time but like others are saying dunno if the texture comes out right

I mite crackle glaze it black the get a colour to match the red and paint over that , again don't no if that would last either !?

The crackle on the powder coat is actually dependant on the amount of powder applied, I imported some from USA a while back, cost a bloody bomb then got fcuked by import tax on top.

Powder coated and as close as I've seen an aftermarket attempt even down to texture

NOSSY_89 29 May 2017 03:54 PM

Found out something new lol thought with powder coating you could only get the smooth finish.

It might be worth speaking to a few places and see if they can do yours with the colour you are after then.
