Explosion at the MEN arena.

That's what sky news are reporting at the min, touch wood everyone is ok. The details are a bit vague at the min as they are also reporting that their is a problem to do with one of the train stations around there, Victoria i think.

Tidgy 22 May 2017 11:48 PM

What ever it is it's at the areana. Friend is in a hotel overlooking it. Read its Suggested it's been an equipment malfunction rather than a bomb.

Eh?

BBC are now reporting fatalities, reppeted explosion but no official word on if it's a bomb or a mechanical failure.

JTaylor 23 May 2017 12:02 AM

Stop speculating, it'll become clear.

joz8968 23 May 2017 12:53 AM

Just showed a stationary car's dashcam footage, facing the arena. You could clearly hear a loud explosion (albeit muffled from the footage).

joz8968 23 May 2017 01:14 AM

Police say 19 dead, 50 injured.

Allegedly, possibly outside the arena, in a public space.

Fair play to CNBC though, because about an hour ago, they'd already said there were 20 fatalities. (At the time, I thought they were just spouting the usual frothing-at-the-mouth speculation-based crap - just so as to be first with the latest news).

pimmo2000 23 May 2017 05:42 AM

Reporting it was a suicide bomber with a nail bomb :(

19 dead over 50 wounded. So close to home too, thoughts are with the parents what kind of **** thinks this serves their God.

RAGGY DOO 23 May 2017 06:19 AM

My deepest condolences to the victims and their families at this terrible time

stealthbomber 23 May 2017 08:00 AM

Thoughts with the victims, families, friends and the people of Manchester.

urban 23 May 2017 08:18 AM

Sadly another nut job.

stilover 23 May 2017 08:26 AM

And they're now targeting outside London.

I was at Leeds Arena last week, and although they were looking in peoples bags, they only seemed interested in looking for bottles of pop, so if you needed a drink, you'd have to buy one in there for silly money.

Maybe if they'd searched bags properly 22 kids wouldn't be dead.

Looking for bombs? Nah, lets clamp down on the real crime ........ stopping someone bringing in a bottle of water to drink.

It may well have been brought in after the concert, just walked in after security had left.

Chances are the nut job wasn't carrying anything, probably hidden under its clothing.

JamieJerkovic 23 May 2017 08:49 AM

All this because crazy people believe in religion.

It was the arena concourse where the explosion took place, not inside the actual arena itself. A large part of Manchester Arena's concourse joins Victoria Street Train Station, so after a gig, anyone can enter (the public concourse that is). It's not like the usual out of city arenas where everything is enclosed behind restricted entrances. It's very much a public domain at the end of a gig so any nut job could enter and cause an atrocity like last night. I suspect the sicko didn't even attend the concert and was just waiting for his/her opportunity to strike.

Snivelling cowards, only here due to our open, cosmopolitan society, will never succeed in their aims by targeting children and innocents.

AudiMan 23 May 2017 09:16 AM

So - ISIS just claimed responsibility for this !
Cowards !!!! must take a real big man to kill children - spineless gutless cowards

How many more times will this happen before we as a society come down hard on these people and their families, and the places preaching this hate.

dpb 23 May 2017 10:03 AM

Claim anything wouldn't they ?

urban 23 May 2017 10:16 AM

Where did you hear they'd claimed responsibility?

Well, given the latest opinion poles, support for labour and it's open door policy is on the rise. So trying to keep these people out will just become harder and harder.

It was also Labour who took us to war in Iraq and Afghanistan, while letting thousands of them come here without checks that has led to all this.

Yet all people will see at the ballot box is promises for free University education (which is a choice not a right), 4 extra bank holidays a year, Pay rises for all public sector workers, and Nationalising all our energy and railways, so we can hand over power to all our essential needs over to the Unions, who will be striking every year unless they gat an unstainable 6% pay rise every year. Ah, the good old days of striking for workers rights and bringing the country to it's knees.

Britain. Not Great Britain anymore

and more debt,,, if labour get in were gonna be the next greece

JTaylor 23 May 2017 10:59 AM

Don't allow the murderers to create hate and division. Allowing them to appeal to the instinct to isolate ourselves gives them a patently undeserved victory. Hate stops when the bomber detonates their bomb and love starts when we pick ourselves up and keep on keeping on.

Peedee 23 May 2017 11:02 AM

Yep, completely agree with the above couple of posts. For some reason, people are believing every single word of the labour manifesto for no apparent reason? They'll happily hang off every single word written in the labour manifesto, but will completely rubbish everyone else's instantly??? Free tuition fees?.....good luck with that one. Still, if young people are gullible enough to believe it all.

JTaylor 23 May 2017 11:04 AM

Poor taste to use this thread as a political sounding board, men.

Yeah I did go a bit off topic there lol.

Thoughts to family and friends involved! X

Steve001 23 May 2017 11:31 AM

My thoughts are with the families of the dead and injured :( my nephews daughters were at the concert, thankfully there home safe and sound :)

However, you can't help but cringe at the hypocrisy of Mr Jeremy Corbyn, only a few days ago he flatly refused to condemn the IRA for the bombing of innocent civilians. Yet a few hours ago....

Mr Corbyn said in a statement:

“I am horrified by the horrendous events in Manchester last night. My thoughts are with families and friends of those who have died and been injured.

“Today the whole country will grieve for the people who have lost their lives.

“I have spoken with Andy Burnham, the mayor of Manchester, who has fully briefed me on the operational response in the city.

“I would like to pay tribute to the emergency services for their bravery and professionalism in dealing with last night’s appalling events.

“I have spoken with the Prime Minister and we have agreed that that all national campaigning in the general election will be suspended until further notice.”

All of the UK's political parties have suspended General Election campaigning in the wake of the attack

:Whatever_

urban 23 May 2017 11:32 AM

Arndale shopping centre has now been evacuated

dpb 23 May 2017 11:37 AM

Iraq / afgahistan certainly were at the top table for, asylum acceptance , we didnt simply have an open door policy though!

how youd actually ascertain for sure whether anyone them could potentially turn hardline islamist somewhere down the line iv no idea

This. Had a rather heated debate at the MEN arena years ago along with a lot of other families when they refused to let us take in any food or drink. As has been said, it was nothing to do with security, only profiteering, but sounds like this was outside the arena anyway.
