Terrible news.

Great rider and he came across as having a great personality, no doubt will be highly missed by those close him, the racing community and fans around the world.

Nik

So ironically sad. He risks his life regularly on a super bike but is killed when knocked off a pedal bike.

Always admired his skills and he sounded like a really nice guy.

RIP, David

Fabioso 22 May 2017 07:53 PM

Yeah, risked life and limb racing round a circuit and then he dies in a cycling accident not on a motorbike.........it just shows that these sort of things can just happen at anytime and you should just live everyday like it is your last.

RIP Nicky! :(

Shocked. He was a character. Thrilled for him when he won the MotoGP.

Very sad news, another human killed by a car needlessly

urban 23 May 2017 08:22 AM

Really sad news, but we don't know any of the facts, investigations say driver speed being investigated, as is if Nicky was wearing headphones, and did he ignore a red light.

All will become clear.

WRXrowdy 23 May 2017 05:59 PM

R.I.P Nicky, don't think anyone in the paddock had a bad word to say about him.

Re the accident, apparently he was in a group of six or so cycling, and reports are suggesting it has been caught on camera, so things should become clear as to why it happened.

Kwik 23 May 2017 06:05 PM

Deeply upset by this, I used to love hearing his interviews. Such a great rider that survived some horrific crashes on a MotoGP bike. I'm sure he and Marco are up there racing together.
The aftermath video of the accident shows some very long skids leading up to the crash scene.

All the stuff I'd read said he was alone, where did you hear he was in a group

WRXrowdy 23 May 2017 06:23 PM

I don't know urban, some random news website I looked at last night, but doesn't appear in my browser history for some reason. Pictures on there of his bicycle snapped in half and the car, it's windscreen and roof smashed in.

I saw a video of him riding in a group which said it was his last moments but I'd presume that was bull****. Any video of that day would be in police hands.
