If the front with out spring off the car and with just the top mount on the piston should not go down if it does, does this mean it needs replacing? cheers

sorry I have a front shock which I took off as to change the springs. Now the shock with no spring on and just the top mount on the shaft goes down with only that weight on where as the other shock does not do this I have to push it down. As I want to know whats right and not

So one side is good and one side bad is it best to replace both or just one

Always replace suspension/brake components across an axel where possible.
