Keeping standard up pipe on a classic

Well, after purchasing a 2nd hand up pipe that didnt seem that great as an upgrade and not wanting to spend £160 an a "trick" up pipe ive decided to keep my standard up pipe , when i remove it to replace the gaskets (as get a wicked screeching sound on boost ) im thinking of removing the heat shields and wrapping it.

Anything else to do to it to improve it or just refit wrapped ?

Cheers

fit a trick up pipe you cheap ass bastard! lol

Is it blowing?

Ha unless its 2nd hand i dont buy it lol , plus after all the time spent on mapping my car i thought if i fit a diferent up pipe i will have to alter my duty cycles all over again.

Yeah, think the original is blowing, i get a screeching sound when boost hits 0.5 and above , slowly getting worse over the last 12 mths or so.

thought if i tackle the job i might as make some improvement if any is to be done whilst its off the car

As you're taking off the heat shied and wrapping this should help keep the heat in better which would increase flow.
Maybe porting the standard pipe might also improve flow?

Are you certain it's the up-pipe? Another possible source for the noise could be the crossover pipe on the headers. If it's the OEM pipe, under the heat shields there are 2 flexi sections on it which look like they could susceptible to splitting...

Not sure where the leak is or if it is , but after research of the audible noise it's been said it's likely the up pipe gaskets

Would be better if it were the headers but probably not knowing my luck

If I attempt to remove heat shields I suspect they will snap off and leave me shield less grr but then could wrap them

Cheers
