Question regarding Aerocatches and carbon/fibreglass bonnets

This is possibly a stupid question, but when people fit lightweight bonnets with aerocatches, do they remove the OEM bonnet latch? I haven't owned one myself, but when I closed a fibreglass bonnet on a car I viewed once it seemed to be a bit cracked at the front, presumably from the pressure of properly closing the bonnet with the latch. It takes quite an effort with a bonnet that weighs next to nothing.

As it's something I'd like to do in the future, I thought I'd find out :thumb:

Also, do bonnet scoops not tear out of these bonnets? Wouldn't have expected them to be that strong really.

Mine still uses the original bonnet catch/latch as well as the aerocatches.

The Seibon "OEM style" bonnet came with a catch to match the OEM latch.
However it needed the latch mechanism lowered to suit.

Do you not find that it takes a real effort to push it down and close it Don, due to it having very little weight?

Nope, but I have fitted the SpecC bonnet gas struts (for aluminium bonnet).

I don't use mine, just catches, removed to save weight lol
