Back from Andy Carr.

Just got back from Andy and all I can say is im glad to have used him, very knowledgeable guy. So with the work I had done to mine VF48, Decat, Walbro pump, Plugs, etc etc, compression test was solid it only achieved 324bhp was hoping for 350 area. Still the power comes in nice and pulls to 5500rpm but runs out of puff suddenly, ill post up the graphs when I get them off Andy later, after some discussion the engine isnt getting enough air and is holding back the turbo etc. So basically I need a big **** off induction kit and STI top mount intercooler then another map tweak. So many people say that the TMIC on wrx is good for 400bhp but this isnt the case with the standard airbox.

Anyway still a happy man and cant recommend Andy enough :thumb:

Tidgy 29 March 2017 01:51 PM

Even the sti one will struggle at 400.

captainlip 29 March 2017 02:22 PM

i'm only looking for 350bhp all I need is to get some more air in the engine, the car doesn't have the urgency it did before. and cant have a VF48 that runs out of ooomph at 5000rpm.

suggestions on best intake?

Dave Y 29 March 2017 02:27 PM

I have a brand new custom made xlarge top mount for sale if it's any help to you ?

BrownPantsRacing 29 March 2017 02:39 PM

I wouldn't have thought you needed to change the intake system to be honest. The standard one is very good indeed and people have proven good results with it, certainly up to 400bhp.

Have you fitted a good quality panel filter to it?

My hawkeye made 334/381 on a VF48 turbo using the standard intake. It was fantastic to drive. On full boost by 3krpm and pulled right through.

I did have a Spec C STI intercooler and undertray fitted to it along with samco boost pipes. Otherwise my air intake system was standard.

My old dyno graphs

captainlip 29 March 2017 04:34 PM

ill post my dyno results as soon as andy sends them, mine tails off at 5k and he said the lack of airflow is restricting the turbo. I have a K&N panel filter in the standard airbox

BrownPantsRacing 29 March 2017 04:51 PM

Sure that isn't just the way the dyno went on the day? nIf they lifted off at 5.5k then the graph would show a dive at the end like mine did at 6.5k

captainlip 29 March 2017 04:52 PM

No he was pulling through to 6.5-7000

Tidgy 29 March 2017 04:53 PM

my old hawk wrx did 400bhp on the standard airbox and sti intercooler, but was on an sc46. post up the graphs to have a look at.

Mad Hammer 29 March 2017 04:53 PM

Weak actuator

BrownPantsRacing 29 March 2017 04:53 PM

That's very odd.

Are you still on the standard WRX intercooler rubber/plastic pipes? Or does it at least have the prodrive silicone pipes?

captainlip 29 March 2017 05:01 PM

yes totally standard pipes and tmic, he was mentioning about silicone hoses.

BrownPantsRacing 29 March 2017 05:06 PM

In which case I would say you're probably being limited by your intercooler plastic pipes more than anything. The standard WRX pipes can compress under boost and restrict air flow through the system.

Also as Mad hammer suggests, it may be a week actuator.

Tidgy 29 March 2017 05:33 PM

Did he not bother to look into it?

captainlip 29 March 2017 05:34 PM

bar the actuator you basically just repeated what andy carr was saying. wish he would hurry up with my results so you can see the dip in it, bar this andy was happy with the curve. first run was 317hp i was hoping more tweaking would have jumped to 340-350 but in the end result of 324hp 380lb im just trying to get 350/380 and more kick from the turbo and for it to not tail off at 5000rpm

mattwrxCS 29 March 2017 05:51 PM

Andrew Carr told me I wouldn't get more than 320 without an STi top mount.

Buy an STi top mount, try again.

john_d 29 March 2017 05:58 PM

why didnt he print off the sheet when u were there?

captainlip 29 March 2017 06:15 PM

not sure think he said email it.

Looks laggy for a TD05,should be hitting peak torque way earlier!

mickywrx 29 March 2017 07:57 PM

To the OP. What size engine, 2.0 or 2.5?

Sort of, I think we were trying to tell you not to waste your money on a big unnecessary induction kit for the car as the standard air intake system won't be holding you back at all. Induction kit is just not required, just a decent panel filter as you already have. As already mentioned, try get a newage STI TMIC fitted complete with the STI scoop under tray. Really need the under tray too and of course the 2x silicone pipes that go with the TMIC. Any newage STI scoop under tray will bolt up inside the hawkeye WRX scoop.

If you don't get the silicone intercooler pipes with the TMIC then either order a samco intercooler pipe kit for the STI or order Samco silicone pipes E90-51 and SCH70 and cut them to length. It's cheaper than buying the bespoke STI kit and they work just as well trust me!

man utd 30 March 2017 04:34 PM

Does mine in fleetwood at scoobyspares, he's there quite often
Cheers Rob

Cheers for the info, surely an induction kit at the same time wont hurt it? still waiting for the dyno results

Whats peoples thoughts on this FMIC instead of TMIC.
