1993 rebuild crank no spark
Need help on this one
i bought my 1993 WRX a week later the head gasket went but before it would take about 5-10 mins of cranking before it would start so I got the head gasket done was told 5 days after 5 weeks I told the garage to get my car back to me I got the car back and it would not start after going threw a few things found the petrol lines were the wrong way round so fixed that and tried to start still nothing it sounds like it wants to go but it won't start checked the coils and there is no spark |
Check cam and crank position sensor, also check the injector plugs,it has been know for the injector plug to get mixed up with the cam sensor plug.
Does the car have an immobiliser? Have you checked for error codes? |
They are all plugged in right the only code that is coming up is the tps but started before with that
|
It started with tps error after 5-10mins of cranking?
You can check voltage of the tps when closed and when on wot to see it its in the correct position. Is there a separate ignitior on the early cars? Have you checked this? I presume all fuses have been checked? |
Yes there is a separate ignitor on it no tested tps before it went in it over heated and the temp is still off the scale never went back down after build
|
Not checked the fuses inside the car as I can't find them removed the full dash at the bottom of the drivers side and nothing
|
I've not had a my93 but on my Classic the fusebox is on the right hand side above the throttle pedal if you stick your head up there.
Some have the fuses behind the little coin holder box, just remove the box/flap and it will be behind that. Is your fuel pump priming when you switch ignition on? |
Yeah took the fuel line off to check plenty coming out would the ignition fuse stop it from sparking
|
The ignition fuse will be in the fusebox you can't find 15a.
Have you checked for power with a meter to see if the coil pack are getting power? Also check the crank sensor as this will cut the spark. |
Will do that the in the next hour
|
So the ignition fuse would still prime the fuel pump but stop the spark am asking as the main Earth was put on the manifold instead of the back but I changed it to where it should be
|
Also if the garage couldn't even get the fuel lines correct then I would be tempted to check if the Cambelt has been fitted correctly, while you're in there check the crank sprocket,it's has been known for the signal mark to wear out so the signal isn't picked up by the sensor.
|
I would have thought the ignition fuse would cut the fuel pump.
Did you check the underbonnet fuses including the SB and fusible link with a meter? Visual checks aren't always accurate. If thing have been wired up wrong, grounds etc the you might even have a fried ECU? Get the meter out and start checking things. |
Ok will do I won't be going back 5 weeks and a grand later my car is worse than it was before it went in

Got it sparking disconnected the temp sensor but still won't start all it's going is popping when I try to start it
|
I had an issue a few years back when rebuilding a v1 installed a supposedly reconned/rebuilt engine and found weak spark on 2 plugs and no spark on other 2, checked timing it was out by 1 tooth on crank pulley. put timing right and it fired 1st time.
|
If its popping that sounds like the timings wrong, also check the coil pack wiring is the right way as the early cars have individual coil packs on each plug so its possible the wirings the wrong way round
