First mod? What would you go for...
Had my blob sti for a few months now and looking to splash abit of cash on her this month... wandering what to go for first?
Happy enough with the power for now as it's got the ppp fitted so a remap is something I'll probably do abit further down the line.. so would like ideas for worthwhile mods or mod for around 500squid?? I know its not a massive amount to be spending but any recommendations that you have would be welcome... cosmetic or performance based please! Thanks👍 |
Braking and handling.
You'll have brembos so decent enough calipers. Maybe pads&discs. Some quality tyres if you haven't already,poly bushing the car,upgrade ARB's and links,updated engine&gearbox mounts,braces,the list is pretty endless really.... |
I'd definitely do polly bushes, steering rack, front and rear anti-roll bars along with any others that are looking a bit tired... then fast road geometry set up from a Subaru specialist... that should tighten the handling up nicely... maybe do a bit of reading in the driving dynamics section so you know a bit more about what's good and what's not. :thumb:

Best mod I ever did was a lightened flywheel. Totally transformed how the car felt more so than a new turbo and remap.

Treat yourself like I did and buy a damd flat bottom steering wheel , there not cheap but make so much difference once fitted it's amazing , so much more chunky yet softer in your hands
It's the first mod I do now when buying a Scoob lol , had one for my hawk and my hatchback and will be doing the same with the next one lol Remember it's the bit you touch the most on the car so why not make it feel nice in your hands |
Depending on what you use your car for and assuming the tyres are good and you've got no issues with the shocks etc.
If you're looking for more performance I'd go for some bracing (front and rear strut braces, h brace underneath) some poly bushes in the steering rack, uprated Arb's and drop links (and bushes) then a good geo done by someone who knows what they are doing. And a brake stopper. |

coilovers and exhaust centre section delete free up the noise a bit

Stiffer REAR arb, (leave the front alone), solid drop links all round, poly bushes, and a PROPER 4-wheel alignment, not done at a tyre place.
It will transform the car. |
Why would you not do the front alcazar ? Would rear arb and new bushes be enough ?

That was a good read!. Mine is on a fast road setup. Possibly lowered bit too much but that can be rectified because I'm on coils. Might just stick with a rear arb drop links etc that alcazar has suggested and just possibly change keep the front arb but change the bushes.

If you're fairly low then look into a roll center correction kit. If you're budget is £500 then you should be able to get one as well as the arb's and geo...

In terms of a geo setup. Is it good to have a negative rear toe or is positive better ?. I know theyre a lot of factors to consider in terms of what geo setup suits you and your car.

I was looking into a roll centre correction kit actually. I know my front bushes are worn and need replacing but wasn't sure whether to replace both front and rear arb ?, but reading the thread rear only seems best. When I fitted the coils the instruction told me to set them at 40mm for front and 35mm for rear. I've been running them in to see how I go and to be honest it's not too bad. by the way you don't live in sawston at all do you mate ?

These are the outfit that fitted and set up my coilovers, plus did the geo. http://www.revivals59.com/ the front arb bushes are a pain to change, but do wear, so only change them if you develop a clunk. the problem with uprating the front is that you increase the tendency for the car to oversteer, so then you have to uprate the rear even more. Which of your front bushes are worn? |
To Be honest mate I'm not sure, but feels like it occasionally when I turn the steering wheel left at a lower speed. Maybe down to the extra pressure on them from the coils I fitted.
may leave the front arb and see how I get on with just replacing the rear. I know the rear arb and bushes need replacing from the last time it was up on my mates ramp, the bar and bushes were both moving. |

Has it been serviced recently?
I've recently advised my little brother to upgrade all his bushes at the front and rear and discs and pads next it will be the tyres and sti alloys then when all that's done : Spec c roof flap £300 2nd hand and I'll fit it myself Some carbon dipping and underbonnet accessories like a rad panel thingie, alternator cover thingie, maybe a set of fresh nuts and bolts that you can get off eBay from a guy in Thailand forgot name!, hella horns. Only you can really know what you want to do next regardless of ideas but make sure all else is bang on first:thumb: |
Yeah mate! Probably only covered 500miles since my last service but it's only recently started making a noise occasionally down the left front. The cars 9 yrs old so maybe they are giving up.
you can fit hella horns on a hatch can't you ?. They look decent. |

As said, brakes. I found the standard brembo's ok'ish even with Decent pads/disc combo. Save the money until you can afford a set of AP or Alcons, you'll never look back

And the four wheel alignment is vital. Mine was done at Carnetix. Spent half an hour discussing what I wanted, how and where I drove, tyre wear vs grip etc etc, before doing the alignment, then took me for a drive to check it was as he wanted, before handing over to me. Great service. |

So far I've ordered some performance friction pads and a whiteline rear ARB... going to get some new droplinks aswell so they can be changed at the same time. Also ordered some ngk pfr7b spark plugs as I'm going to see Richard at FB tuning at the end of the month for a remap👍 Not hunting for massive power just a reliable smooth power delivery so will be curious to see what I get on top of the ppp! Have heard good things about fb tuning so thought I'd go for the remap whilst I'm there... any of you guys had a remap on top of the ppp? Is it worthwhile? Thanks again😎 |

I would definitely get steering rack polly bushes, 10/15 min job on a ramp, cost about 30 quid, but really transform the feel of the car... remember yours have probably never been changed from new, so are like 13yrs old.
