Acceptable oil useage
Whats an acceptable amount of oil to use on a
Wrx blobeye wagon, std engine/turbo @ 1.3bar??? I've done a search but most threads seem to be aimed more at forged engines so I'm guessing it'll vary. Much appreciated cheers |
Ballpark figure as it depends on a lot of vairiables but 1 litre per 1000 miles max
|
as above, anything over 1L per 1000 miles is a pretty terminal amount.

So 1.25ltr over 4500 miles is ok??? Roughly that is, might be less. It's definitely used 1ltr |
My old Blob Wagon PPP would use about 500ml between changes of around 5/6000 miles... that was the average over 4yrs of ownership... bought with 92k on the clock and sold on 126k.
It does however depend on use... if I was doing lots of small trips.. ie 10miles to the shops and back it would use more... barely used a drop over my regular 1300 mile inside 24hrs trip across Europe.... Which is to be expected. |

Which is to be expected. I've had 4 old classic Impreza and all have been around the same 500ml per 5-6k miles. I would be proper worried if I was sticking in 1ltr per 1k  |

use a thicker oil , 500 ml to 5k miles sounds better , is it showing smoke in normal driving if not than thats not a bad sign , try a 10/40 or a 15/50

If your having to use thicker oil then your covering a problem, not fixing it

Not always, some people follow the suburu manual and put 5w30 in which is too thin/low viscosity imo

on the twist side it may stop the issue , as cars get older then it can be worth going to a thicker oil any way , i know on the v8 i have after 100,000 they put a slightly thicker oil in no expectation of failure just more play in a higher mileage engine
|
Nope doesn't smoke or anything like that. Sometimes it varies but if late I've been doing a lot of shorter journeys. Along to work and back.....literally a mile along the road.
The top up oil I've been using is 15w/30 |

Just kidding, I begrudge having to walk from the front door to my car. :D :lol1: |

I'm properly lazy, but, even I would walk that!
Just kidding, I begrudge having to walk from the front door to my car. :D :lol1: TBH I usually cycle it, well I did last year but not over the winter months. I'm suppose to be using the daily for work and the missus uses the Wagon but over the last few weeks I've been using the Wagon for whatever reason. She's a pain in the arse. |
Only doing short journeys will thin down the already thin oil you are using.

15w 30? Are you sure about that Wull?
|
i would 10/40 or 15/50 if it's still burning 15/50 will reduce it , my engine is forged so i'm currently using 15/50 , even on the other car with forged lump and about 75 k miles on the engine still using 15/50

I've got other stuff for the hatch which eludes me at the moment but that's maybe 15-50 or something like that. |
Tfft! I had a google after reading 15w 30 & it turns out to be tractor oil :lol1:
