2005 WRX GEARBOX HELP

Hello all

My Wrx is making a very ticking noise that gets louder as i drive, i took the car to Subaru they checked the car over and diagnosed it to be the gearbox. My Transmission No: TY754VN6AA. I have looked on ebay and called breakers but no one seems to have this trans. There are no mods on the car.

The 2 questions i need help with:
- is it cheaper to replace or rebuild?
- What other Transmission will be a direct replacement- 9R-TY754VN5AA, 7R-TY754VN4AA..

:)

That sounds very familiar to mine.

The gearbox died on my 05wrx. No-one had a box anywhere other then some dodgey looking one in Lithuania. So I said balls to that, and got a 6speed from tegsport. Extra happy, fairly easy, no more worries.

How much did it cost you. Was it a direct fit?

Yea was a direct fit, needed a few bits like matching rear diff, new clutch , prop and linkage. The box and diff was 1900+vat other bits come in around 300 for.the lot.

The gearboxes changed when they went to Hawkeye WRX it uses a push clutch and male ended drive shafts. The previous bug and blob models (UK cars) were all TY754VN boxes there were slight changes to various internal components over the years but nothing major. I believe the later ones 4AA, 5AA and 6AA are the best but the 754VN boxes are a direct fit, these have 1:1.1 drop gears and use a 3.54 R160 rear diff.
