MK1 Escort for sale. In need of "some" restoration!

Found this little gem today. With a few weekends in the garage it should be MOT ready in no time at all!

£650. A bargain surely?

stealthbomber 10 February 2017 11:26 AM

I'd like to see 'car sos' sort that out!

On-the-bog 10 February 2017 11:27 AM

i'd like to see who would be stupid enough to buy it hahaha

BrownPantsRacing 10 February 2017 11:29 AM

I've emailed the seller asking if the MOT has run out and asking if it can be driven away?

MOTORS S GT 10 February 2017 11:31 AM

Still got 1 of my Escort's, not selling it either.

That's lovely. Very nice.

Martin typeR 10 February 2017 11:45 AM

What someone is buying there is the all important V5 and VIN plate to put onto a stolen car, the shell will remain where it is.

BrownPantsRacing 10 February 2017 11:51 AM

Sad but true.

Martin typeR 10 February 2017 11:54 AM

Very sad, its a shame it cant be reported but i suppose its hard to prove

As said above, just for the V5. I very last minute pulled out of a purchase of a mk1 Escort Mexico when the seller tried to blag it had full history and he would mail it to me! Turned out is was a reshell. Most are reshelled or welded to **** heaps these days. Very few genuine, good AVO shells about. Be prepared to pay if you do find one!

BrownPantsRacing 10 February 2017 12:39 PM

You can still get shells apparently too, so it's not out of the question that it will be legitimately re-shelled and built up again. So long as it's declared then it will be ok. Not worth as much as a genuine original shell car obviously, but will still fetch a fair price I'd imagine.

A lot of the rally car MK1's and MK2's I know of have been re-shelled at some point. I'd still own one if I got the chance!

Ahh seventies Fords, my Capri had hole size football in right footwell where joined the silll

Was only 10 years old

BrownPantsRacing 10 February 2017 01:43 PM

To be fair, I think this one is a little larger than a football.

Football sized holes in old Fords are considered as acceptable panel gaps!

dpb 10 February 2017 01:46 PM

MOT people weren't happy lol ( 1987) , infact they condemned the car right there as lethal

BrownPantsRacing 10 February 2017 01:52 PM

I bought a classic mini some 15-20 years ago for £10 from a friend of a friend who just wanted it out of the way. They hadn't used it for a while and it had just been sat outside. It had a hole similar to that description in the passenger foot well and one slightly smaller on the drivers side. Within 10 minutes I had managed to get the car started and running. I've no idea how, but I managed to drive it all the way home like that with little to no brakes. It seemed like a good idea at the time until I had to drive through a massive puddle and a torrent of water washed up inside the car completely covering me. Nice!

alcazar 11 February 2017 12:29 PM

Wish I still had my MkI Mexico.

That would be your retirement fund now. They go for just silly money!

I'd absolutely love one now.

The seller has replied to my question now, he said: hi, sorry no mot, cant be driven at moment but could give you a tow, thanks.

My reply to him would be: Is there anything at all structural enough to actually tow it from? Also, will the tyres still take air so it can be towed?

BrownPantsRacing 13 February 2017 11:35 AM

Personally, I think you'll need to get Time Team involved to excavate this thing out with their tiny spades & brushes.

JDM_Stig 13 February 2017 01:18 PM

I wouldnt touch that, looks full of filler.

legb4rsk 13 February 2017 03:15 PM

Shame about the colour.

:D

[QUOTE=legb4rsk;11919076]Shame about the colour.

That bronze metallic as funny as it is in this case is one of the best colours for the anti weathering effect on the MK1's, my red one & 2 more I built were that colour to start with & all of them were on original sills, no door rot, or bulkhead rot etc.

Worth going onto Ebay and reading the questions.

One person asked if it came with a full valet? Classic

The seller has a sense of humour though with some of the answers.

BrownPantsRacing 13 February 2017 11:59 PM

Yep, I've asked him a few questions now and he always replies. Good fun! :)

You're also buying a means to have zero road tax? That will pay for itself in 2-3 years if you get it at £500.
