MDX321T or GTX3076R

As above guys looking for comparisons/oppinions of the two.

A little bit of history, currently running an mdx321t on a standard 2004 sti motor with supporting mods but the engine is due a refresh as breathing heavy and low on compression so making low figures.

Anyway the plan is to rebuild the motor with a top end refresh, and take it to 2.1 fully forged on the bottom end.
Obviously I will run all supporting mods needed to make it work correctly but which would be better out of the two turbos?

MDX321T will be run standard position and the GTX3076R will be run either rotated or maybe even front mount.

What would you guys recommend? Money is an object obviously but I want to do it right first time and I can do all the fabrication myself.

Thanks Ian.

Gtx3076 rotated is tried and tested as a very good set up and rotated will always breathe better than any standard position turbo. Or if your happy with your md turbo just make an adaptor and rotate it yourself if your handy with the fabrication

If I stick with the MD it will stay standard position.
What I'm concerned about is whether the GT will be too big, will it spool later than the MD.

Also what exhaust housing would be the preferred one? A few available, 0.64, 0.73, 0.82 no idea lol.

I run a rotated 30 on a 0.64 on my 2.5 and makes amazing power really smooth, yes it does spool later but still pulls really well

To add I swapped my md321v for a gt30

Thanks for reply but the V is a big step up from a T though so will I be going too big do you think?

B9SLJ 05 February 2017 08:21 PM

Gt3076 is bigger than a 321t or v so if your on a 2.1 it's going to be laggy but you will have great top end power .
Depends wer u want your power band really.
You can get your 2.1 built with high compression to help with spooling up the turbo

Thanks, that's the info I wanted. Ideally the spool of the MD or slightly better would be preferred, I'm looking for around 450-475 bhp.

Would a GTX3071 would be better suited?

B9SLJ 05 February 2017 08:43 PM

You can get about 480 from 321t with meth which will also help spool.
. Gtx3071 will give similar spool as T

ianbott 05 February 2017 08:53 PM

I would be happy to go rotated or maybe even front mount the turbo, not scared of a bit of work.
So the GTX3071 is likely to spool better than the MDX321T and possible make more power.

So then the next question is which housing would suit a 2.1 best?

B9SLJ 05 February 2017 09:25 PM

I would stick with the small housing.64 for the power your aiming for, should spool nice on 2.1 whether u decide to rotate or front mount

Thank you.

Absolutely no need to rotate if GT30 size. Standard position is fine. Md321v, precision bolt on and others will all see high 400s early 500

:depends on what figures your after I would go with a forged 2.5 with with the md321t superb spool and 450 easy with supporting mods great grunts motor
