Chester / Surrounding Garage Recommendations

As per the title.

Need get my Blob STI checked out (check engine light came on recently) and a little bit of other work done.

Normally I got to Group B motorsport and I'm pretty happy with them but they can't fit me in at the moment. I want to get it sorted ASAP so I can start driving the thing again. Would really appreciate any recommendations for places in / around Chester.

Thanks,

Can't fit you in for a simple code read?
:(

To be fair I did ask for a few other bits too. And they have said they'll try to fit it in, but i've not heard anything back from them yet.
They're apparently not taking on any private work right now, and instead focusing on racecars.

But yeah even an offer to read to code and go from there would have been nice. Anyway don't want to bash on them they've been really good with me otherwise.

Graham walker off Sealand road used to do subaru, had some work / servicing done quite reasonable. Not sure if they still do subaru thou :)

Nobody from Chester on here that could read the codes for this gentleman from an obd thingie?

If only you was local to me pal I would have put my diagnostic tool on for you read and clear the codes and pointed you in the right direction but I'm in Accrington unfortunately sorry :(

Steve001 30 January 2017 05:53 PM

Zany has just reminded me :poke: I have a basic reader with torque app

PM me if you want me to read codes for you :)

Top man :)

TBH ZANY I will read the codes but not clear them, don't want to mask a problem that a more sophisticated reader at his chosen garage would need to fix it :)

The torque app is ok but very very generic :)

Totally understand what your saying mate:thumb:

My little bro's wrx threw up the first lambda on bank1 about 3months ago I cleared it and it hasn't come back since but if it did I'd know what to replace sometimes low fuel or a cold misfire or an exhaust leaking slightly can throw the cel light on aswell so clearing it might just sort it for him maybe..

jaygsi 31 January 2017 10:23 AM

Yeah i have a code reader and did the same on my Impreza had an error code with cat after hitting a pot hole, cleared code not come back since.

Steve001 31 January 2017 11:48 AM

This is fine on your own car, I will gladly read the codes but not clear them. Last thing I would want is someone saying that their engine blew up because they ignored a fault I cleared. Can of worms comes to mind :)

rich__88 31 January 2017 12:42 PM

Appreciate the replies and responses guys.
Is it worth me getting a reader myself?

PM coming your way Steve

MAF circuit low
Lean on bank 1

suggested staying well off boost and get it checked out thoroughly at a specialist ASAP

AFAIK Lean is never good :)

he took a picture of the one I have, there not expensive, although a little basic. Torque pro and a few others would benefit from car specific profiles with more meaningful diagnosics.

Faults suggest a dodgy MAF buggering up the fueling, but it's £70 or so for a MAF to find out.

rich__88 08 February 2017 01:10 PM

Dropping it off @ Graham Walkers tonight.
Fingers crossed its just the MAF sensor and nothing more sinister.

Itching to be able to drive it again!

So Graham Walkers were great, really helpful guys. It looked like a dodgy / loose intake pipe, nice easy fix.

..Until the check Engine light came on again at the weekend! So its going back in again this week.

Steve001 13 February 2017 03:07 PM

Alright mate, I was wondering how you got on :)

Never had any problems with Graham walkers and never felt like I was being over charged either, I'm sure they'll get to the bottom of it

rich__88 20 February 2017 01:06 PM

Hopefully second time lucky! Got it back on Saturday and I've given it a couple of runs and *touch wood* it looks like its sorted!

This time it was a new 02 sensor, refitted the MAF sensor which wasn't sitting right and cleaning up Oil residue from when I had the Gauges fitted.

If you ever need a top garage around Chester, speak to Fflatfour Performance in Rhosllannerchrugog, only 20 minutes from Chester and best around, only person my dad has near his car. You'll find his work on Facebook 👍🏼

Thanks for the recommendation. I'll check them out.
