V3 type r fast road car 4pots vs brembos

Just wondering if there is a good disk pad combo I could use with my standard 4 pots on my v3 type r that will make the brakes actually work? At the moment they have unknown disks/pads which are totally useless!

I'm trying to avoid changing to brembos if possible.

And yes I will be ringing Alyn at AS performance and Ian at Godspeed when I get a minute, was just wondering if anyone has made the 4 pots function.....

Cheers

Refurbing the calipers with the stainless steel pistons was one of the best things I had done.
And I did go with Godpseed Kevlar pads/grooved discs at the same time...good for the occasional mad dash :)

Exactly the sort of personal experience I was hoping for cheers fella

As always it's going to depend on how hard you're planning on working them... definitely it's going to help if they're in tip top condition with quality pads and fluid, mine on my Type R would stop the car quite well, but you need to manage them a little bit, they're not up to prolonged hard driving, 5 mins of mental is about the limit, then you need to chill for a bit.

If you're planing on changing I'd save for AP 4 pots over Brembos as they fit behind more wheels.

Sound advice on having the basics in tip top condition, when I come to sort them (I'm a struggling to find a replacement vf23 to actually get the car back on the road) I'm hoping to refurb the calliper and replace the fluid then fit the recommended disk/pad combo.

When I say fast road car I'm in no way hooning around like a mad man, my first moment of concern was approaching the top of a slip road in the first week of owning the car and having to actually stand on the pedal to stop it from 70mph lol

Incidentally the car already has 17" revolution millenniums fitted and I won't be changing them as I look on them as being perfect for the car...

Cheers

Dare I say but have a look on some of the Facebook pages for a replacement turbo (yes there are some honest sellers out there:lol1:)

I know you don't want Brembos but they fit nicely under Millleniums :)

Worlasshasansti 24 January 2017 09:19 PM

There were two turbos for sale about a week ago but I think they sold..... I'm on a lot of the Facebook pages although I'm not keen on the gamble unless one came up which I could collect/inspect.

I'm hoping to keep the four pots if I can get them working nicely on a 300bhp type r but when the time comes if it's better value to swap to front brembos/AP then hey ho.

Indeed as much as there are good sellers there are a load of dodgy sellers.

My Type R was running 300bhp (refurbed 4 pots/Godspeed discs/Kevlar pads) and it stopped perfectly fine.

I went Brembos (black ones) as they turned up bloody cheap and from Subaru themselves (2nd still) but none of the usual stripping thread rubbish that normally happens

Hi myblackwrx.Did you fit Brembos front and rear or did you fit Brembos only on the front?

myblackwrx 25 January 2017 08:30 PM

Hi Mperregil

Brembos on the front at the moment....set of rears being refurbed by Godspeed Brakes over the next week.

I would definitely get the calipers refurbished with stainless steel pistons.

What about Mintex 1155's on the front and 1144's on the rear ? They were available as a main dealer upgrade at one point.

You may want to think about braided hoses as well as a brake stopper.

Cheers fella, already has braided hoses fitted so that's one thing crossed off the list haha.
