if i had a budget of £1000.......

what should i buy to make my blob wrx faster?

im not looking to make it a flying machine and defo not looking to buy another car, ive just come into a little windfall that i wanna spend on my motor:)

cookstar 19 January 2017 09:34 PM

Depends what spec it is now really.

cookstar 19 January 2017 09:35 PM

If it's standard, full decat, 3 port boost solenoid, updated fuel pump and a map.

Should see you around the 280 mark with change

The Trooper 1815 19 January 2017 09:41 PM

Why faster?
Go round corners better, stop better and run better are much more important.

BoozyDave 19 January 2017 09:58 PM

Start off with decat sti uppipe, bigger injectors (pink or blue from hawkeye), VF35 turbo, 3 port boost solonoid, new fuel pump, fuel pressure regulator, possibly decat downpipe, and a custom remap. Should be 315-330 bhp

One other mod I got to help the top mount is a water spray kit, only £60 and helps cool top mount when stood in traffic.

You can also lose a bit of weight to help acceleration

Also look at discs and pads for faster roads and better suspension for faster cornering

Hybrid turbo 400 injectors 150 decat 50 map 300

Very drivable rd car

BoozyDave 19 January 2017 10:01 PM

Which hybrid for £400? SC32?

Cruddles 19 January 2017 10:11 PM

If you are doing the work yourself, you can do a lot with £1000. I've just been through this - retained standard downpipe but replaced rest of exhaust system with 2nd hand parts from sccoobynet/ebay - mixture of H&S catback, Japspeed mid pipe & decat uppipe of unknown make. With new gaskets cost approx £300. New Iridium plugs £30. Race Dynamix remap £500ish. Gave me 280bhp - massive improvement. I then spent £250 on brakes from Godspeed followed by PCA Springs and Whiteline rear ARB and Drop Links. Probably now closer to £1500 than £1000 but the car is a superb road car and more like the car that I always wanted...Happy Days!

Would deffo go for handling and brakes before power upgrade. If the suspension is original then new struts possibly lowering springs or keep the originals if a softer ride is required. Replace as many suspension bushes as possible prior to getting the geometry done. On the brake side a set of aeroquip hoses and a brake stopper ( http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/TEGIWA-BRA...UAAOSwHoFXsfdT ) as an example, this reduces the amount of movement by the master cylinder due to flexing of the bulkhead under braking. Pads and discs could be done. A decent Geometry setup will improve things nicely. Then look at power upgrades.

Why only be able to go fast in a straight line, it is not what an Impreza is about :D

legacy_gtb 20 January 2017 12:24 PM

brakes and bushes.

Agreed. If I came into some cash I'd got for either a roll center correction kit, or a anti lift kit (depending on how low the apex springs are), look to upgrade at least the rear Arb and drop links, and add some poly bushes to the steering and suspension parts. Then a good Geo set up.
For power I'd got for a 3 port boost solenoid, uprated fuel pump, K&N filter, de-cat up pipe, Iridium spark plus, straight through center pipe and if possible a 200 cel down pipe. Then a re-map. should get you to about 280 Bhp.
if you go a load of the work yourself you may be able to get all that for £1000...

I don't do track days and I would not take an Impreza anywhere near the limits of its standard brakes and suspension so power would be king for me for me punching out of corners and off roundabouts.
