Fire
Technology has largely passed me by but perhaps you bright young things could help.
Was thinking about getting one of these so if I wake up in the early hours I could glimpse at a film or even do some reading. Fire HD 10 Tablet, 10.1'' HD Display, Wi-Fi, 16 GB (Silver Aluminium) - Includes Special Offers Can I use it to make phone calls and would I get an audio facility for books? Opinions/comments invited. I don't want to part with £160 on a useless gimmick Thanks, David |

doesn't sound amazing . Can probably call over internet ( skype etc) , doesn't seem have sim socket so no telephone calls. I'm sure other younger will know best possiblities |
Buy an iPad. I make calls from it, and even text from it.
Books can be audible on any tab, I think. They just have to be audible themselves, that's all. I know some folk with their 50 quid Lenevo Tab3 listening to their audio books. |
think youd look bit of a tool with a 10" tab clasped to your lughole ;)

This could potentially be good . Youlll then need some cheap sim , inc data

Honestly, you could buy any half-decent tablet even cheat than £150 and download the FB messenger to make free video and audio calls to your loved ones and good friends. 'Half decent' meaning a tab with good speed and reasonable space. I think all Android tabs allow a micro SD card to maximise the storage.
Facebook may be a messy, town market type of place, but FB Messenger is ace! |
id recommend whats app , for v slightly less personal data theft
|
and its more like telephone - youre talking to one person at a time
|
TBH I've never made/received a voice call on WhatsApp, but will receive one tomorrow from abroad. I've done both video and voice calls on FBM many a times, and it's jolly good. Also, I'm sure more than people can speak through the speaker of their tab/phone and talk to you on WhatsApp. Who says FB Messenger essentially makes a public broadcast of your call on the other end?? Of course one can talk one-to-one to others on that as well.
About the data theft, I may be wrong but I hear that WhatsApp is a Facebook property now, anyways. So, WhatsApp is only as secure as the FBM. |
I loved my Fire 10! Kids have it now but I have a 7" Fire and love it.Getting another fire 10 as soon as I can!
Bought an ipad off ebay and sent it back.I accept it is just personal preference and I am a real Kindle fan,but I really thought it was brilliant ( the Fire.lol) |
A call for me from India on WhatsApp got postponed till tomorrow, but I had a good half-hour free-of-cost voice convo with my loved ones, currently in Siam Reap, on FBM today. Funking fantastic!
