Ej20 block compression
Hi, I'll try and make a long story short.
I have been building a track car, I fitted a cam belt incorrectly (90 Dec out on the crank) started the car and feared I'd bent a valve after the engine back fired. I re fitted the belt correctly and the car seemed to run ok,so I sent the car away to be re mapped, the car only made roughly 220bhp and I was told that the car got to about 5000 rpm and had nothing left. So a suspected bent valve. I have sourced a replacement set of head an am in the process of swapping them over to find and realise that the engine that is in the car turns out to be a legacy engine. My my question is will the legacy EJ20 CDB with V2 STI Heads fitted still make decent power or is the block simply no good. Any help is greatly appreciated |

You haven't given any real details tbh, what car is it? have you built the engine? What turbo? How much boost? Have you done a compression test? What compression ratio is the engine?

The engine was already fitted when I brought the car. I brought the car and drove it 5 miles home then stripped it down to almost a bare shell and sent the car to have its cage fitted. I then modified the fuel set up, as in parallel fuel mod, MK2 escort tank in the boot and fitted pumps and filters. Got the car running and took it to castle Combe for its first run after I'd built it. The day was frustrated as the car seemed to have a lot of fuel cut. Sorted now. No I haven't built the engine but believe it to be fine. All be it that I haven't really looked at it too much and wasn't planning on doing much to it till I found that I'd fitted the cam belt incorrectly. The car is currently fitted with a TD05 turbo and I was told that the car only made 0.5 boost, basically spring pressure. Been told that my AVCR solenoid might be faulty by I wasn't there when the car was mapped. No compression test done. No idea what compression ratio the engine should be but I suppose that what I'm really asking as I've just realised it's a legacy engine. thanks |
sounds more like you have a turbo / boost control issue??

from what you have said it doesn't instantly sound like an engine issue.........
in general yes an early single turbo Legacy block will work fine with V2 heads |
Thanks for the reply. as I've already got the heads and a replacement gasket set I think I'll fit them to get the car running again.
