Finally scratched that Porsche itch

The mid life crisis hormones finally won out and I bought myself a piece of Pork.

A GT3 would have been top of my wish list but the two rear seats where essential to prevent my two young boys disowning me:D

So a Turbo S it had to be. I was originally after a silver one with a black interior and ended up buying an grey one with beige interior, such is life.

Not the best photos in the world, apologies. The interior is not yellow as it appears in the video or pics, it must be the lighting!

100% better than a BMW

Dingdongler 22 December 2016 09:57 AM

Thanks for the kind comments. It's been a long time coming and I still feel a little guilty for the indulgence.

The colour, not my first choice, has really grown on me. Its less shouty than white/silver etc which suits me and some of the places I have to park in London.

I'm still getting to know the car as its my first Porsche and it goes without saying that there is an obscene amount of power on tap.

But one thing has quickly become apparent. In terms of a practical supercar its in a class of one. It's not as unique nor does it have the flair of a Ferrari or Lambo but I can drive this car everyday. I take my boys to school and football practice and and earlier in the week all three of us drove to Duxford Air Museum. I know its boring but I averaged 28 mpg on that journey. My previous M and AMG cars would have struggled to get 18mpg.

Yesterday I did the Christmas lunch shopping with the Mrs and we managed to fit all the food for 7 adults and 4 children into the car!

So in terms of a practical supercar that you can drive everyday, park almost anywhere and ferry the kids about for short to medium journeys there's no competition.

Cheers

Awesome car mate. A 911 Turbo is a car top of my list.

Enjoy it

Dingdongler 23 December 2016 01:58 PM

Thanks again for all the positive comments.

@zip 106

All good matey, I wasn't sure if you still posted on here. I was keeping an eye out for you on PH as well since I started posting there again a few months ago.

I thought you might be shocked that I actually bought the car aftee talking about it for the last five years!

All well with you?

zip106 23 December 2016 04:19 PM

All good here buddy.

Was thinking it was about time you took the plunge...

Don't post much on PH these days, more the Lotus forums.

trainer 23 December 2016 05:21 PM

I love the colour looks a stunning car I've always fancied a 911 Turbo (997) When I come to sell my GTR think I will either go the Porsche route or maybe F-type SVR

RAGGY DOO 23 December 2016 07:14 PM

Stunning enjoy

RB5SCOTT 24 December 2016 12:54 PM

Congrats mate. Good choice, 911 Turbo S is probably the most complete and all round 911 :thumb:

JTaylor 24 December 2016 01:57 PM

Lovely! :thumb:

Dingdongler 24 December 2016 04:12 PM

Thanks all.

@RB5SCOTT The last time I was around these parts iirc you had a lovely red c2s with ducktail spoiler but were looking to get a GT3. Did you get it?

RB5SCOTT 24 December 2016 04:24 PM

Yes mate, had it 2 years. Will change it for a gen2 RS when they come. Bloody had to buy the Mrs one too  so got her a Macan Turbo. Have you reached Warp speed yet in the S :D

Cool. A GT3 let alone a RS would be my dream car if I didn't need the two rear seats.

I've reached sub warp velocity, roads have been too busy to get to full warp yet:D What's amazing about this car is how it puts the power down, it has serious traction. Some 'real' drivers might find this boring but I like it. Plenty of AMG and M cars have 500 + BHP but you just can't get the power down unless road and weather conditions are 100 % ideal.

I'm waiting for my Silverstone session to really understand the car's dynamics and limits before I really cane it. I am also going to have the wheel alignment checked.

I had a bad experience when I bought my (approved used) C63 AMG and it soon turned out the alignment was way out despite the dealer insisting it had been fully prepped/checked.

Cheers and Merry Xmas:)

RB5SCOTT 29 December 2016 10:14 AM

Yes my GT3 sits in the garage a lot of the time as i use my Range as a daily so rear seats not a problem :D The 991 turbo though has come a long way to making it drive better though, its a much more sporty handle over the previous models :thumb:

I would like to say that the alignment should be ok if you bought from Porsche Approved as its one of the checks they have to do, if its liked to one's taste is a different matter though. I had mine done at Centre Gravity as its now set up to drive how it should and to finer tolerances. The ironic thing is, if i took it back to Porsche they would say its out of alignment and put all the standard settings back in with greater tolerances

Silverstone is a great day out with some great posh food, I've done 5 now :) lots of different things to try.

Have fun :)

zip106 29 December 2016 09:56 PM

The best bit about the PEC is the food - lovely, but not much of it.
I did my 4th day there last week and you can't really experience the full dynamics or power.
Can only get into 3rd gear once for a very short time on track, and even then you could really stay in 2nd.

Make sure to go on the new section though - the corners are a bit more technical than the old track.
