Sequential box

Anyone running a Sequential box on the road?
Not as a daily running car
But as it a mid night rip and local track day car?

What's your views?
Good and bad parts?

joe v3sti 16 December 2016 12:02 AM

Modena is "the one" to have I've got that on good authority from a mate, who has campaigned one for years and is probably the most proven of the sequentials

Cons, yes they cost a million quid.

Ultimately they are a competition gearbox and not for road use. Of course you can use them on the road, but that's not the point of them, it's a gimmick on a road car

domino46 16 December 2016 07:05 AM

It will save you loads of time on that lap around mc Donald's lol

This is meant as a friendly joke people lol

joe v3sti 16 December 2016 01:59 PM

Why on earth would you want a sequential on a road car

marshy 2009 16 December 2016 03:54 PM

It's road legal
Takes it out now and then to have a little joy ride,

Don't use the car much!
And always wanted a Sequential once in my life.
Needs something better than the spec c box I got now

gazney101 16 December 2016 05:37 PM

There's a device from Japan that can bolt on to your gearbox and allow you to have the fwd and bkwrd gear stick action but you still need to use the clutch.
its about £1k I think

joe v3sti 16 December 2016 06:06 PM

Yeah the IKEYA shifter, bit pointless as it doesn't speed up the gear change at all.
Nothing wrong with a h pattern for road use at all, irrespective of what power your at

marshy 2009 16 December 2016 06:46 PM

H pattern is poo lol

Mattybr5@MB Developments 16 December 2016 07:45 PM

People who comment saying seq boxes are pointless on a road car clearly haven't experienced one gear changes are quicker and easier for normal driving the noise isn't as loud as you think the gear changes on modern sequential boxes can be done with two fingers and no longer break your wrist when using them and more importantly you don't run the risk of smashing a 2k plus gearbox every time you use it hard like Micheal is at his power now if I personally spent as much as Micheal I'd want the best for the car and apart from the cost and slight noise change there non of the draw backs

we have 3 cars with samsonas boxes fitted all used on drag/track and Rossi wouldn't build another high spec car without one

joe v3sti 16 December 2016 08:44 PM

Gotta disagree there matty, don't get me wrong I love proper gearboxes who doesn't. But they have no place hooning round the street. Don't get me wrong taking them on roads to put miles on and shake down is one thing.

Quite frankly it's a waste of a fantastic gearbox to be honest

H pattern is right enough for us mere mortals ;)

Mattybr5@MB Developments 16 December 2016 11:30 PM

And I have to dosagree completely with you just because you have a sequential gearbox doesn't mean you have to go joining around they drive exactly same as a normal gearbox select your gear and drive they are actually easier to drive after 5mins of driving one you wonder how you lived without one

Also Micheal isn't asking if you would have one fitted in your own car he asking from people who have them and have experience on the road there aren't many but a lot more than you think and when Micheal goes on the track like he has this year already he doesn't have to worry about smashing his standard box that was never designed to cope with the stress his engine puts out now and can enjoy the car to the maximum it's as simple as that

joe v3sti 16 December 2016 11:54 PM

I won't ever wonder how I lived without one, mainly because I cannot justify 15k on a gearbox, self admittedly I can't afford one, but I could do so much more with 15k. The main reason is, as it stands my whole car as a package goes very well with the stock box. When the day comes that I'm chasing tenths of seconds in a competitive environment, then it may be an option, until then I'll keep doing my thing with the H pattern ;)

Anyway they are my opinions and as you said he isn't looking for that. So if we want facts

Repairing a stock 6speed is fairly inexpensive. Repairing sequential gearboxes isn't and they do break! Something for the op to consider

Best thing Marshy can do is go on 22b forum and ask the question, is a sequential gearbox suitable for his road car.
Let's see what response the pillars of our community give. I'm talking about the respected individuals that have been there and done it, the people that have been using these kind of gearboxes for a long time.

Also give tegsport a ring and as them the same question

joe v3sti 17 December 2016 12:00 AM

No one is saying they cannot be used on the road. But that's not what they are for FACT.
They are a motorsport transmission

Mattybr5@MB Developments 17 December 2016 01:44 AM

Joe your making it very personal about your own car he not asking that and at the power he running he is on borrowed time with his boxes he knows

it's not just a normal road car or even just tunedy like most do your talking over 850bhp onces you break one or two h patterned boxes you soon fast realise that the seq box is the best option as for people on 22b I know most of them iv raced with them and deal with most of them already not many people get to try these boxes in there life time but I'm sure not one will tell you there any harder to drive and next you be telling andy f not to map his race car on the road because it's got a seq box and too much power not everyone is happy with the normal route people go if Micheal wants a box he simplied asked people who tried it to give there option not for someone who never tried it to give him reasons that make no sense he knows the cost he knows there not the average day to day thing but so is the car it's not his Dailey driver it's a 850bhp IMPREZA which I can only assume is a bit more of a handful than most will ever experience

Now I'm not trying to make Michaels mind up for him as he talking about buying my box personally I'm happy to keep the box as iv explained to him I wouldn't have another one without it I'm writing these as iv been there iv used these boxes since the moment they was released in the uk i think I'm pretty well qualified to comment on a thread like this

lastly motorsport box?? the car has a massive Turbo built for motorsports a engine built for motorsports a motorsports ecu aswell as nearly every other aftermarket part derived from motorsports the gearbox is exactly the same category although a tad less cheaper than most bits

Mattybr5@MB Developments 17 December 2016 01:47 AM

Here a clip for you non believes here is us testing the second known samsonas gearbox here in the uk and first to go in a road legal car over here it looks really hard driving this in day to day traffic etc

Kaeo 17 December 2016 03:21 AM

For someone that's testing a car with that amount of power, the guys actual road driving skill is pretty bad.

:lol1:

That's Big Fudd and you're right, he's a cr4p driver. :Suspiciou :lol1:

Mattybr5@MB Developments 17 December 2016 09:57 AM

Road driving skills ?this thread is pointless to many people adding comments that have no relevant to the topic as always on this site video shows how easy gearbox is to deal with and as you can see the noise level is bareably that's a fully stripped out car solid mounted gearbox/engine and rear diff and we can still talk and comunicate the video shows how easy this type gearbox is to drive regardless of what everyone who never experiencing one has to say

boosted 17 December 2016 03:03 PM

Andy F no longer has a sequential box...

True... he is fitting a GTR box to his :lol1:

Mattybr5@MB Developments 17 December 2016 06:04 PM

Yes I know but he shouldn't do that it's a motorsports gearbox:nono:

How much would that cost inc an ecu to communicate with the box...

depends how much work you do yourself and how many favours you call in! I made a bit for Andy's car, I'm sure many others have too.

yeah I believe so, nothing that hasn't been done before

banny sti 18 December 2016 08:29 PM

Say all the work is done by pros as you dont have the skills, does it cost any less than a off the shelf sequential?
