Well, I should have my HKS front mount this week, which
I am really looking forward too - but...

1. I've heard that FMIC's can contribute to turbo lag, is this the case?

2. Would a good TMIC (i.e. MRT) be as good a solution as an FMIC? The advantage of course would be no bumper cutting etc etc.

So there you have it, what are your thoughts on the FMIC vs good TMIC battle, what would you choose and why?

no cutting is good, above engine is bad for heat soak by convection and conduction from block.

speed of air through pipes means lag is really not an issue at all. I have been in so many fmic cars now I cant remember and you only get any noticable difference between tmic and fmic when the turbo is too small to fill the extra volume fast enough.


a good top mount eg mrt can work wonders, but ultimately wont be as good as a well designed fmic. But then it is much neater and less hassle.

Enjoy your FMIC. I have fitted an uprated TMIC, and the hacking about was not insignificant and it does not reduce temps like a FMIC. Still good though with a 50% bigger core and cheaper, but a FMIC is the way to go for best performance undoubtedly.

It was thought to be BPM, but has STi etched on the top - I think by a previous owner. The core is the same depth and width as the original, but it is 50% deeper and bar/plate rather than tube/fin. Seems to work well for what I need - for now ;) Some of the welds look not at all mass production.
