Gold brembos

i know that this has probably been gone over a few times but....

if i was to have a set of sti rotors drilled to 5x100 will they fit over my 18" wolfrace jdm's on my wrx.

theirs some front gold brembos braking on here and wanted to know if they'd fit ok.

cheers

Matty81 07 December 2016 11:19 AM

I know that clearance is always a sticking point but I was wondering if anyone had experience with 18" jdm's fitted with front gold brembos.

Wull 07 December 2016 01:21 PM

Why you needing them drilled?

The STI rotors from bugeye to 04 blobeye are 5x100!! Maybe even 05 as well but don't quote me on that.

Matty81 07 December 2016 02:09 PM

I thought so but wasn't sure. know just a question of clearance know.

BrownPantsRacing 07 December 2016 02:14 PM

Hi, got your PM but not had a chance to reply yet.

The diameter of the wheel is not the issue, as some 17" wheels will accommodate the brembo calliper fine. It's all down to the shape of the spokes.

Looking at your Wolfrace JDM wheels, I'm not 100% sure they will fit straight off. You may need to fit a small spacer at the front to get clearance between the spokes and calliper. Easy to do.

Go for it. Brembo brakes are a MASSIVE improvement over the WRX brakes trust me. You won't regret the upgrade.

Wull 07 December 2016 02:20 PM

Yeah they're definitely 5x100 especially if it's the set from the 03 STI that you posted on. The diameter will be 330mm.

Even the rear STI discs are bigger than the front wrx discs.....wrx brakes are pants.

Matty81 07 December 2016 02:33 PM

I hate the standard wrx brakes #brownpantsracing. if I know that a small spacer will help I'll go for them.

BrownPantsRacing 07 December 2016 02:34 PM

Also make sure you get the 4x brembo calliper retaining bolts with the callipers as your WRX bolts are different. You won't be able to fit them without these.

Secondly, ask & check to see if the threaded mounting holes in the brembo callipers are ok. This is a very common failure area. On my last car I helicoiled all 4 of the threads to repair them all and future proof them.

Ok mate I'll ask. I can't really say no with the discs and pads being thrown in aswell. But these are the ones in question.

If it's the ones on here all bolts are included

BrownPantsRacing 07 December 2016 02:51 PM

Good to know.

Personally I'd be fitting new pads at the very least. No guarantee that you will fit the correct disc to the correct calliper in the same way to match up the pad wear pattern on the discs & pads. This will just cause the discs to wear even more irregularly. For the cost, just fit new pads.

If you can afford it, go for new discs too.

Can I ask how much they are going for?

Matty81 07 December 2016 02:54 PM

They are going £480 mate. The discs and pads are sti rotors (as you probably already know) and with the pads he said that they have (pads/discs) only been fitted few weeks ago.

Wull 07 December 2016 02:57 PM

You'll be fine with the pads, I wouldn't worry about them not being fitted to the same caliper and disc as before.

BrownPantsRacing 07 December 2016 02:59 PM

Agreed. If the pads are that new you'll be fine.

I paid £400 for brembo callipers, discs & pads. :D

Matty81 07 December 2016 03:04 PM

Cheeky! :) was that from a breaker ?

BrownPantsRacing 07 December 2016 03:05 PM

Nope. a private seller.

The going price for brembo calipers is normally £400 for a pair (with bolts). You don't normally get the discs & pads though. I'd suggest £480 is haggleable. :)

Matty81 07 December 2016 03:09 PM

Hmmm may give that a go mate :)

Have you actually bought a set yet bro? I can check if I can get you full setup at a good price if you haven't yet

Matty81 07 December 2016 03:15 PM

Not yet mate. Waiting to hear back from him.

Matty81 07 December 2016 03:46 PM

WHAT price do you think you can get them for zany ?. Thanks though buddy :)

Wull 07 December 2016 03:52 PM

I think that £480 is a decent price with pads and discs that are relatively new, I don't think you'll get better tbh.

Matty81 07 December 2016 03:55 PM

if it came to buying them and needed spacers but my alloys didn't fit still, what would be my options without having to buy new alloys because they cost me £1000 for them. That's the only thing that's holding me back at the moment.

Matty81 07 December 2016 03:56 PM

Totally agree though wull! That's a good price :)

Wull 07 December 2016 03:58 PM

What's the offset on your wheels?

Wull 07 December 2016 04:05 PM

It'll be on the rim, usually the inside though. I honestly can't see the Brembos not fitting. The wheels on the STI are 17's and they clear them, I think they're et52 or something like that.

Neeko1988 07 December 2016 04:06 PM

i had these wheels, im sure they are available in 35 and 45 offset

Wull 07 December 2016 04:06 PM

Worst case scenario is they don't fit, just sell them on. I'm sure you'll get your money back.

Neeko1988 07 December 2016 04:07 PM

i think the standard was 45

Matty81 07 December 2016 04:07 PM

My take a look later on. I was gonna have a look earlier on the inside but ran out of time. the discs themselves are 330mm so there's a bit to play with inside I guess.

Matty81 07 December 2016 04:09 PM

Ok that helps. Always helps when someone's had the same rims. 45 good enough for clearance ? As I don't know what the offset is on the std sti wheels
