18" wheel size

could somebody measure an 18" wheel for me and tell me how wide they are....may seem a stupid question but my 17" ones are over 17" wide

all I need is the rims not with tyres

thanks guys

17" wide ???

Would that not need like a 400 odd section tyre ??

SmurfyBhoy 06 December 2016 11:52 AM

Think its 7.5 or 8 J

Could be wrong

nikon-man 06 December 2016 11:52 AM

should have said wheel diameter not width

So I was right then.

SmurfyBhoy 06 December 2016 01:44 PM

Correct yes but kinda useless,

When would you need to know the area or circumference of an alloy ?

Think he was after the width and offset, like 7.5J, ET46 etc. :thumb:

SmurfyBhoy 06 December 2016 01:47 PM

May help a little.

all great stuff but all I was looking for was the width of a tyre rim which is 18"

are they spot on 18" or wider ????

Your not being very clear ?

If you mean width like the width in picture attached it can change along with offset.

Wheel

Diameter - 18"
Width - 5/6/7/8/9/10 J
Offset - Et 46,53 etc...

joz8968 06 December 2016 02:01 PM

Generally, 'most' 18" alloys are produced in 7.5J and 8J widths (7" and 8" respectively). But, of course, any given manufacturer can, and sometimes do, make any wheel in multiple widths, for different applications (within reason, of course).

So it's a bit of a 'how long is a piece of string' type question.

nikon-man 06 December 2016 02:03 PM

lets try once again guys....I want to know the width of an 18" wheel....

so can somebody just measure the width / diameter and tell me what they are....

I don't want the width as in 7-5 etc

take a tape measure and let me know the width of the rim without tyre size or make are they 18" or wider ???????????/

SmurfyBhoy 06 December 2016 02:07 PM

Lets show you again

18" from what i read is the inner diameter.

Eh?

Or look inside the rim at a spoke, it normally says the with.

nikon-man 06 December 2016 02:10 PM

I have 17" on my car and if I measure the width of them they come out just over 18" wide which is way I would like to know how wide an 18" wheel is

width as in 7.5" I am not worried about just the actual diameter of a rim.....

SmurfyBhoy 06 December 2016 02:12 PM

If your measuring the outside facing you then obviously it will be larger as its from where bead of tyre sits :)

I am not worried if it is larger smaller has more bhp all I want to know is the size !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

SmurfyBhoy 06 December 2016 02:18 PM

Obviously all gona be slightly different depending on style,

Bit of a useless dimension really imo

The Trooper 1815 06 December 2016 02:18 PM

Pictures are the only way to the bottom of this one.

nikon-man 06 December 2016 02:19 PM

can somebody measure me an 18" GT1 wheel and let me know the diameter of them.....

SmurfyBhoy 06 December 2016 02:24 PM

My 18" Prodrives are 19" approx,

Still useless tho can you explain why ??

SmurfyBhoy 06 December 2016 02:25 PM

But if you measured it like you should its would obviously be 18" :)

If you are measuring to the edge of the tyre across the diameter it will depend on the tyre profile.

18" = 19.2" with 40mm profile tyres.

The Trooper 1815 06 December 2016 02:30 PM

I think the clue is in your tyre size.

I measured mine hoping id find out why he needs the dimension lolol

The extra diameter is the lip that stops the tyre coming off which is not included in the measurements. Inside the lip, inner face to inner face, is 18 inches. The red marks on your picture.

I would imagine that one can change dependent on style etc ?

Still be within a few mm of each other tho, I'd guess

Like you says all the info is on the tyres,

There's a reason that there's a standard way of measuring a wheel lol

nikon-man 06 December 2016 03:06 PM

i have just purchased a set of GT1 wheels and was looking at the 17! ones already on my car and wondered how much room there was to play with...

that's why I was asking !!
