Bugeye STI - Decisions Decisions!

Currently running a BMW E92 325i which I love.

However, I just cannot get the Scooby thing out of my system.

I recently bought a sti widetrack but sold it due to it being quite high mileage, having horrible bc suspension fitted and needing quite a lot of tidying up. Plus I bought it cheap and managed to make a tidy profit. :D

However, a nice little Bugeye STI has popped up for sale with low mileage and near standard tune apart from a remap and Tein lowering springs.

I could really do with having 4 doors again but I do love the comfort of the E92 BMW and the looks. Just miss the Impreza. Can't explain it. Think I will always be an Impreza man in my heart.

Do I go for the Bug? Not many left now and can't see them going down in value. It will be my every day car and I only drive around 600 miles a month.

In a bit of a dilemma!

Has anyone else's opinion of the bugeye changed over the years?
I used to hate them!

(Also, does the bug have isofix as standard?)

markb_s1 04 November 2016 02:09 PM

My opinion of the bugeye has definitely changed.
I used to find them visually offensive, and whilst I still don't think they're the best looking car around, the looks have grown on me over the years.

I think the uk Wrx bug is a pretty ugly little bitch. The jdm bug however looks awesome, I used to have one a few years ago and still love the look of them.

Paben 04 November 2016 03:25 PM

The Prodrive Sti Bug is the best looking Newage Impreza of the lot, unfortunately in short supply now as the breakers keep breaking them. And the black ones are in even shorter supply.

nortonscooby 04 November 2016 07:18 PM

I personally love the bugeye and as said the prodrive edition looks spot on.

stealthbomber 04 November 2016 10:52 PM

The prodrive and jdm headlights make all the difference, completely change the look of the car for the better. Go for it and dare to be different!

There is a low milage bug sti on one facebook pages at the minute.looks fairly clean, some good mods.think he wants around 7.5k.i allways get suspicious if they are not advertised on here tho.

yabbadoo4 05 November 2016 12:01 PM

they have matured like a fine wine. the sti was always a looker with the projector headlights, it was the normal wrx headlights that looked awful and gave it that bug ugly look. sti also has the best seats (apart from the awsome carbon backed recaros) bug sti also had one of the strongest engines of the range and was said to be over engineered at the time. getting a rarer sight on the roads as well now as they were a bit marmite at the time and didnt sell massively. get it bought!

As has been said, I didn't used to be too fond of the Bugeye's front end aesthetics, but now I love a nice Bug, especially in Prodrive guise. And the Type RA Spec C is stunning, too. There's a sumptuous white one on here - belongs to a Mr AScottie, I believe. Looks as good as any Scoob.

Agree with this completely.

I've owned my Bug from new, a set of Morette headlights, replaced the gold wheels and fitted a high level rear spoiler instead of the mobile ironing board. It looked a lot better, the engine has not been re-built but with suitable replacement items now gives a nice 440 bhp with 112K miles on the clock. Not my daily driver as now gets @14mpg so not good on the pocket.

My first impreza was a wrx bug and I loved it, a jdm sti would be my 'ultimate' weekend toy purely on the looks, what wheels are you running Ian?

Cant beat a Bug.

I think the WRX is a bit boring to look at in standard form but a few small changes makes them look a whole lot better!

This is mine how I got it

It's on standard gold sti wheels now, only 1 key and a bit of lacquer peel on bonnet and drivers wing. Lots of history though.

Up for £6695 or near offer.

Don't you reckon the scoop goes well along with the extra wide Xxr's with the skinny tyres on for the monster look :norty:

i quite like the bigger scoop on my bug, does have a purpose as it directs more air in.

Attachment 29139

Gear Head 06 November 2016 02:18 PM

Running out of time to see it today as its 120 miles away. ::rolleyes:

Paben 06 November 2016 02:20 PM

The Blob's shape needs a bigger scoop as at high speed air passes right over a Bug sized one. Bugs don't need it though and purists get quite upset about a Blob scoop being fitted.

ZANY 06 November 2016 03:45 PM

I still miss mine
