hi not sure what you are saying are you talking the splitter inside the bonnet mounted intake ? , if you are that does help if you have one ?

SmurfyBhoy 04 November 2016 10:10 AM

Yes, it helps guide the air fully onto the intercooler fins, it's more efficient, but i doubt you would feel the difference, couple of ponies and possibly a little lower temps,

I have one for sale if you want to pm an offer ?

I think you would need the larger scoop for it to fit inside as well,

Could be wrong on that one tho :)

was one fitted on earlier cars ? , i made one out of a piece of aluminium and pot rivited it in place , the fsti sg9 did not have one , if you already have one i'm sure it's fine , it is noticeable to add one if it not got one already fitted

Andy F advised my mate to fit one to his type r,

He had the newage topmount on his,

I have a FMIC on my blob so didnt need the part inside the scoop so took mine off and gave it to him but he sold car before fitting it :)

Hi yes its the piece of plastic which sits under the scoop, at the moment it half covers the scoop and directs the air onto the old cooler. But now I have a newage wondered if it would make any difference.

See pic below for attention

Yes, i know the part you are talking about and yes it's better to have the one suited to the intercooler you have fitted,

The rubber underneath is sized to match the newage topmount.

yep if the rubber skirt isnt matching the top mount then its giving the air an escape route as its not sealing and forcing air down through the IC, and as such you are loosing any benefit of the larger intercooler

Do you know if it is direct fit ?

Would he need the outer scoop from a blobeye if he wishes to fit the larger inner scoop ?

wont be a direct fit, and defo wont fit if its a bird catcher scoop undertray, but you should be able to get a close fit, enough that it seals on the IC.

i was able to fita newage WRX IC & undertray on my old classic, just had to make a few adjustments for securing undertray to the bonnet as it didnt align with classic undertray fittings

The sti intercooler could well be bigger again tho?

basically just lay the undertray on the IC and then gently bring bonnet down to see how it lines underneath and up into the scoop

alternatively make a custom one out of some sheet aluminium and cut out the skirt from the newage undertray
