Yeh I'm on my 2nd MY97 jdm and they've both been very good tbh.
although the Cambelt tensioner caught me out when ordering! TWICE ffs!
Jdm have the drinks holder and the double din but no clock or fancy bright button lol

I must have been lucky with mine,or unlucky, depends on how you look at it :lol1:

I had my 1993 WRX for a few weeks before I realised this...as without prior knowledge, it's hard to see. :cuckoo:

I did not buy or install that hu btw :freak3:

And that thing at the bottom doesn't do anything it looks like a cut out of some sort or even something to push... it does nothing

Even more strange, the bright button in my old UK MY98 was a big switch and not the push button like yours :wonder:

mickywrx 23 October 2016 08:53 PM

Are you trying to fit a Nardi steering wheel?

(Sorry. I got the order of those components wrong.)

On my 1993 WRX that bottom blanked off cubby was open. To store odds and sods.

And yeah, where your clock and bright button is, is where the drinks holder resides in JDMs.

Get an OEM boss from a PH1 JDM car. :thumb:

joz8968 23 October 2016 08:56 PM

Yeah, cool.

What do you have to do to do that transplant?

Would that retain self cancel and horn push, though?

If not, then he can use that HKB boss, in post #2. Because it reuses the airbag wheel's clockspring module (as well as having the rear contact ring for the horn push).

I have one I put a pic of it up on page one, I want a cubby hole for odds and sods:(

joz8968 23 October 2016 09:02 PM

...But I think he's just transplanting the STi's steering hub assembly wholesale into the UK wagon, anyway.

Yup.

No pic of the rear of the wheel there mate.

Find someone breaking an early car, get all the trim from the centre console off it, might need the mounting frame also.

2 little cubby holes and no bright switch is a win in my book. :thumb:

That's the clock spring Assy. Early JDM's come with a proper boss to fit the wheel to.

Get the boss, bolt in place, fit wheel, and it should be all good.

joz8968 23 October 2016 09:12 PM

Oops, sorry. Wrong pic.

AP3491 23 October 2016 09:15 PM

That's the assy the nardi wheel came off of tbf

mickywrx 24 October 2016 07:26 PM

At the weekend, I'll try and pull the steering wheel off mine, to show how it was fitted and the part you need for the horn and to make the indicators auto cancel.

You'll still need a boss though to mount the steering wheel to the column though.

Was a chit shunt to get off, the original, had to use a bearing puller to get it off and even then wasn't easy

mickywrx 24 October 2016 07:48 PM

Yeah, they are a right twat to get off. :brickwall

AP3491 24 October 2016 08:02 PM

Iv had steering wheels off in the past but never have had to deploy the bearing puller....
Everyone had made the mistake of pulling it as hard as they can with the nut totally withdrawn and hit themselves surely

I was the same. But I found out after 'only' a matter of weeks......not 4 bloody years!

I bet you couldn't believe it? :D

markb_s1 26 October 2016 10:40 AM

still haven't been and looked for it yet!
maybe tonight.

will be totally pointless though.. any open container of liquid will be spilled all over the place within seconds of setting off due to very hard suspension and speed humps!

AP3491 30 October 2016 04:51 PM

So I went about changing the steering wheel today, it's fitted nice on there but self cancelling still isn't working but it does self cancel by hand, just not when the black ring in below pic is in.
https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.sco...71b12406ae.jpg

It's like there is something missing

https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.sco...575f62fa58.jpg

It is meant to sit inside the wheel like this I imagine but then it didn't self cancel

https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.sco...c904e9a18a.jpg

I can physically see it self cancel when I twit it by hand but it's as if it needs to attach to the wheel but I don't know how, could someone help please:wonder:
