- Assuming the 'recipient' UK wagon is a Classic, then you'll need this hub:
http://www.driftworks.com/hkb-boss-subaru-13810.html ... Accommodates the OEM clockspring module for the indicator self-canceling...and also retains the OEM horn-push feature. I have one fitted to my STi 5 (for running a tiny 260mm steering wheel :cuckoo: lol): Attachment 21658 - If, however, your wagon is a New Age, then you'll need this one, instead: http://www.driftworks.com/hkb-boss-subaru-13811.html |

If you can be arsed, then for sure, you can swap over your v3's whole steering hub assembly into the wagon - assuming that's possible?!?! And then you won't need the HKS hub.
But surely that's a lot more of a ballache (than just buying that hub), no? |

Ah, didn't realise that both assys were already removed. :thumb:
Didn't realise the MY97 UK cars got the Airbag/clockspring set-up? I assumed they'd be just like their JDM brethren. :wonder: Only thought the MY98>on cars got airbags. |

Sorry, yeah, it's HKB, not HKS. :wall:
But the make matters not. :) - Purely out of personal curiosity, I'm guessing your wagon is actually a MY98 (not MY97)...albeit your car does have the correct P plate for a MY97. (But DVLA can be a bit hit and miss in this area, regardless). MY98 was the model when the cockpit changed... Inc. passenger-side and steering wheel airbags, see? Now, the year letter code (4th character) for JDM MY98 cars is "E". But - and just to complicate things - the UKDM MY98 model should be "F"... Post up the car's applied model code, I'm guessing it'll be: GF8F5KD (K = UKDM model) Am I correct? :D |

(OK, so I got the K in the wrong place lol).
But yeah, the E does indicate it's a UK MY97. (For a JDM, E would indeed indicate a MY98). I'm surprised TBH - seeing as you say yours has the airbag steering wheel. Ho hum... |
Excuse the mess his is the day before I picked it up and rescued it from the field it was living in, lieterally aswell

Yep, that's defo the pre-facelift dash/interior.
So, either someone has converted it to the later airbag steering wheel... Or the UK cars cars got it a year 'early', as std equipment. :thumb: |

For want of a better phrase, V3/Ph1.5 cars are a pain in the fcuking arse.
Have you got a pic of the rear of your original steering wheel? |

Nope. The gubbins in one of the OP's pics looks the same as my car.
Got a V6 STI steering wheel in mine now, kind of modified it so the indicators self cancel. ;) |
Friend of mine had a UK Turbo, MY97, that had airbagged steering wheel as standard, same as the OP.
|
So did the UK MY97 get the airbag wheel as std then (as borne out by the OP's photo)?
I didn't (necessary) realise this, if this is the case. |
...Ha, crossed posts. ;)

Very odd,the very useful bright button belongs to the UK car but the indicator and washer stalks are on the jdm side :wonder:

I thought the uk cars had a drinks holder and not a clock, I think it was deffo there from std seems like a lot off ball ache to install it and have the issue of all the seat belt pretentioners and wiring just to have a steering wheel, maybe was a feature of the later ones but the fella just took early delivery of the car? Or maybe a very fussy order?

If the drinks holder is in place, it's 'hidden' above the cubby (which itself is above the radio/DIN slot). It pulls out.
I had my 1993 WRX for a few weeks before I realised this...as without prior knowledge, it's hard to see. :cuckoo: |
