Boost gauge vac pipe where TO?

Hi there

I know us are all gona go mad and say go read different threads but i tried and there is alot of different opinions :wonder: couple of them ive tried and no joy so need little help its a version 4 sti , boost gauge might be crap now but it was there when i bought the car just wasnt installed fully since i have the car on the road now i need to have it, so where do i connect that vac pipe for proper results? :brickwall

johned 15 October 2016 09:33 PM

Can you see a rubber blank on a pipe to the left behind the alternator.

Tad266 15 October 2016 09:42 PM

id have to have a look 2moro, car is at the job if i have would that be the place ?

Tad266 15 October 2016 09:48 PM

would it be the pipe facing up from the inlet manifold?

something in there already :D just put a T piece there ?

alcazar 16 October 2016 07:28 AM

Om my V4 there was a rubber blanking piece on the end of a spigot on the front right of the manifold top, seen as you looked under the bonnet from the car' front. Remove that, slot vac pipe over the spigot.

So tried left side taping in to pipe and right side of manifold to bov no joy on any of em :/

johned 19 October 2016 11:16 AM

Maybe gauge is duff.

Tad266 19 October 2016 02:49 PM

It does go up and down as its self testing when ignition is on lights up and all that, anyway of testing? Would it work if i blow air in it w/ compressor?

ossett2k2 19 October 2016 02:53 PM

Which gauge do you have?

merlin24 19 October 2016 02:59 PM

Is that the boost gauge sensor mounted on the bulkhead on the drivers side and the pipework wrapped around the strut brace ?

Mick

Tad266 19 October 2016 03:41 PM

Timex boost gauge, yes thats the gauge sensor and hose wraped around strut brace

johned 19 October 2016 08:31 PM

So am i right thinking that it is not a mechanical type boost gauge but an electrical one with a sensor.

Tad266 19 October 2016 10:18 PM

Ermmm its vac pipe to sensor then sensor wired up to gauge but the actual gauge is something likhttps://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.sco...29bea10682.jpg

e this slightly older type maybe but everything same otherwise the gauge is actually stays on 50 for some reason connected or not connected and tried driving it connected to left side or right side of manifold and no movement in the gauge at all

johned 20 October 2016 11:15 AM

Probably gauge is duff and maybe the sensor as well so if i were you i would buy a mechanical gauge that does not need a sensor .

Tad266 20 October 2016 09:15 PM

Right, new gauge it is so, thanks for help guys

johned 20 October 2016 09:48 PM

Keep in touch as to the outcome.

Tad266 21 October 2016 01:23 AM

The question is now what to get i see popular ones are slightly expensive i found prosport which is reasonable but that is with sender..

imprezagaz 21 October 2016 06:30 AM

The prosport boost senders can be bought separately when they fail. About £20 for the last one I got

Tad266 21 October 2016 05:39 PM

Id like to get one without sender as per johned

ossett2k2 21 October 2016 06:00 PM

I run a Tim boost gauge, cheap but reliable :thumb:

Tad266 21 October 2016 06:02 PM

With sender or mechanical? Accurate?

ossett2k2 21 October 2016 06:15 PM

Mechanical and very accurate.
I do my own mapping and the gauge is bang on to what the ECU reads.

Tad266 21 October 2016 07:04 PM

Any chance of a link which exact one? Id give it a go

ossett2k2 21 October 2016 07:20 PM

TIP: before installing, replace the std filament bulb for a multi-SMD job. The difference in illumination is night and day... In both brightness AND uniformity.

ossett2k2 21 October 2016 07:34 PM

Nice tip @joz
I shall be upgrading my bulb me thinks :thumb:

Link to said bulb please? :)
