The bbs appears to be running (loading) very slow tonight compared to other days and nights, heaps slower. Anybody else finding this or is it my PC only?

WREXY.

Scoobychick 16 May 2001 11:16 PM

I've got exactly the same problem.....it's driving me mad waiting for each page to load http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/frown.gif

WREXY 16 May 2001 11:23 PM

Cheers Scoobychick,
Looks like I'm not alone.

WREXY.

Big Den 16 May 2001 11:27 PM

Yep, I've noticed it seems to be very slow opening threads & refreshing forums.

Anybody know why?

Den

Gerg2 17 May 2001 01:57 AM

Its terrible for me as well. It takes me more than five minutes to post a reply after the page opens http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/frown.gif

Billbill was also having the same trouble the other night if I remember correctly.

All my other bookmarks open fine so it doesnt appear to be my ISP....webby???

Greg.

philc 17 May 2001 07:12 AM

me also - got the 'server busy' message last night; what size are the ads? seems to take a n age to load the graphics for wax wizard/EVO7, etc, but once they load the rest of the page follows pretty quickly (inc. members' gallery).

I will now press the 'submit' button and wait patiently (for at least 3 secs).

philc 17 May 2001 07:14 AM

post displayed and return to this page - 6.5 secs.

Excellent.

WREXY 17 May 2001 09:38 AM

Hi

Apologies for the reduction in service. We're looking into it and hope to have it sorted today.

Best regards

Simon

Scoobychick 17 May 2001 08:19 PM

Still very slow for me......anyone else? http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/frown.gif

WREXY 17 May 2001 08:48 PM

Yes. More revenue for the phone company as I'll be on longer, unless I have a gutfull of this and go off early.

Andy W 17 May 2001 09:44 PM

slower than sh1t!
grrrrrrrr

Big Den 17 May 2001 10:13 PM

Yep, still finding it very frustrating.

Probs as follows:

1 Slow gettin in to the BBS
2 Slow when opening forums
3 Even slower opening threads/topics
4 Replying to topics - Bah! humbug!
5 Refreshing pages cause they don't update - go and make a cup of tea then come back,
go to the toilet, come back again!!!!

Any news on what the prob is webmaster?

Den

Big Den 17 May 2001 10:24 PM

That's it! I've had enough tonite. I posted a reply on a thread & although the thread updated and went to the top, if I go back into it I cannot see my post.

I'm gettin really p1553d off now.

I'll come back later & see if things have got any better but, I've been having probs in here for a few nights now.

Den (I'm sure UR doing your best to sort this webmaster)

ex-webby 17 May 2001 11:14 PM

Believe me... I'm far more angry about it than you are. Please be supportive and bare with us.

I can assure you we are working as hard as we can to find the problem.

Best regards

Simon

ex-webby 17 May 2001 11:16 PM

Actually..

something that would be really helpful, is if there is anyone that is NOT finding it slow? as we're trying to find a pattern.

Thanks

Simon

Simon...working fine this morning at 0918. had one thread really slow to open (15secs) and I am running ISDN with 128K either way.

ChrisB 18 May 2001 09:54 AM

Ping times are pretty good.

I was getting sub 100ms on 64K ISDN from home last night. Here at work (2Mbps leased line), average is around 50ms.

Having said that, the two slowest nodes seem to be the node in front of the Scoobynet / Esoft server (195.166.8.22 - router or firewall perhaps?) and the server (195.166.79.208).

The static content of the pages load quickly, it's the dynamic generated topic lists (etc) that seem to be slow (even on our leased line).

What spec is the server ScoobyNet is running on and how busy is it?

Chris.

Hi Chaps

The server is basically on tick-over.. running between 5 and 20% CPU and 20% of the RAM.

It all seems like a bandwidth issue, but we can't work out how, as there is shed loads of head room left...

One thing that MIGHT be the cause is that there is a whole load of new bandwidth being installed into the data centre and we're wondering whether that is causing some kind of network problem.

It is driving me loopy. If it isn't sorted within the next couple of days we're going to move the server to another datacentre which will basically give us the dedicated use of 100Mb burstable to 1Gb connection so we can see if it is bandwidth or not.

Once again, apologies.

All the best

Simon

WREXY 18 May 2001 11:02 AM

There definitely is a problem though, cause I've been reading the bbs since January, joined in May and have never experienced this before. Davefromevonet, I'm 'running on empty'

WREXY.

WREXY

We know there is a problem my friend, that's why so many of us are giving up our own time and the time that we would normally be paid to work trying to sort it out for you and all of us.

mook 18 May 2001 11:06 AM

Has been a little slow for me and some topics don't load at all. I've had similar problems with other UBB BBS's, some of which go down for days, this one is pretty good in comparison. Got a 2mb line at work, when no-one's using it on nights it sometimes downloads at 170k/sec, fantastic!! Once downloaded a 6.5mb mpg in 25 seconds http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif Okay, I'll get my coat ....

WREXY 18 May 2001 11:14 AM

Cheers Webmaster,

It appears to be working fine for some and I'm just making sure there is no confusion. I genuinely appreciate your efforts. http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif

Kind Regards,
WREXY

EvilBevel 18 May 2001 11:32 AM

Simon, without wanting to drag on this thread ... could it be that the problem lies upstream in either 195.166.8.22 (dunno what machine that is, probably belongs to ar1.MAN1.gblx.net) or 195.166.0.206 (bs0418-a0-0-0-10.lei.router.uk.quza.net) ?

Simon 18 May 2001 12:26 PM

Don't know whether it's fixed or not, but it's running as well as usual for me. http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif
