Show me your extensions
Moving house at some point and wanting a decent size kitchen.. one that can be used as a family room to spend time in.
Not sure on budget as yet though as it depends on the price of the house |
Can't show any pics. I built a 2 bed 2 storey extension on an original council 2 bed semi. Then stuck a 20x12 ft kitchen diner extension on the back.
Result 4 double bedrooms 3 bathrooms(inc ensuite) two reception rooms and very nice kitchen diner. Integral garage. Lovley rental return :) |
Sounds nice..can i ask what sort of price tue extention was roughly

For a finished single story extension work from about £1,300 per square metre, if you are going for two floors, add about 50% again; add to that professional fees (budget for 15%) for architect, structural engineer, planning application, building control and you should have budgetry numbers to work with.
If your plans are to add a kitchen add on antoher £15 - £20K depending on the size and finish you want in your kitchen. DONT FORGET ABOUT VAT! I added a double length garage and extended the original storage space over the first garage into a first floor bedroom spanning both garages(8m x 8m useable floor space) with huge amounts of built in storage with some re-arrangement of the first floor for access about 8 years ago. Personally I wouldn't take that route again, I would buy the house with the space that I wanted / needed even if it meant stretching myself a bit, extensions done right are not a cheap way to add space to an existing property in my opinion. |
