fuel tank filter?
Impreza STI 2009
I cured a petrol leak around the fuel tank which was traced to the 8 hole metal bracket/lid holding the gasket which seals the petrol pump/filter to the top of the tank:(. It was rusty. The rubber gasket itself was good. Peering in to the tank floating around loose on the floor was what looked like a large Havana cigar shaped metal filter. I have searched the forums, parts, YouTube videos etc and can't find any mention of this item. Does anyone who has been in the fuel tank know what I am talking about and if so what is it doing and why is it there? Is it to be left alone or has it become detached from somewhere? Thanks |

Did you take a pic of the floater? Or pull it out to investigate? I've seen similar to what you describe, slow release octane booster springs to mind. Btw welcome along :) |
Wow that is a record. I'm surprised your having rust problems on a 2009 Impreza.

There's is an In tank filter that can be replaced available genuine part, it would help if you have any pics of your findings:thumb:

Didn't occur to me at the time that it was unusual and assumed it was there for a reason so left alone and no pics.
The car has done 2 or 3 trips across France and up into the Alps every winter since new. I suspect despite hosing down underneath after each trip the hose just doesn't get to the top of the tank but the salty spray off the road does. I recall on one occasion driving along the fast lane of the autoroute through 6 inches of soft slush, (blocked the front airvents!) |
