stick rear windw spoiler?
guys ive bought a rear window spoiler for my bug, its the afterarket type so no drilling etc but what is the best stuff to stick it on? would good old silicone do the job? it would still be flexible to handle the bumps etc im guessing? or do i need tiger seal or sikaflex or similar? my mate suggested epoxy 2 pac type stuff but i think that just dries hard and would crack with the vibration etc? any advice welcome, cheers. ps. just to say looking at the spoiler it looks like the last person used silicone to secrure it.

I've used a sealant bond for a vortex rear roof add on I put on lasted about a year before it flew off on the motorway !!! Learnt my lesson stick on bits come off and look tacky when do and leave marks where they are put on more work, the genuine item has 2 bolts on each side for a reason:wonder: but that's just my opinion pal good luck:thumb:

Same here, I have heard a few stories of them being ripped clean off at speed as the bonding isn't strong enough to withhold the pressure.
I ensured my carbon fibre one had the studs and was fitted by a local bodyshop. they did say it was a pig to fit as they had to cut some of the inner panel away to access the studs as pre Hawks don't have the access holes, but bonded it to seal to the panel and obviously the nuts, been on for over two years and not budged one bit. Had the rear screen replaced a while back and the guy wouldn't believe me that it wouldn't come off, tried for 30 minutes and not a bit of damage and no sign of it moving :lol1::lol1: |
Ive had a genuine sti roof spoiler sitting in me shed for nearly a yr coz aint had the balls lol to drill and fit using riv nuts, still the best option i reckon rather then risk bonding it on, each to their own tho

Mine is bonded on, tiger seal and no sign of it going anywhere yet.

There's a big thread on here about a roof spoiler coming off at speed because it was not bolted on causing damage to the impreza etc.
Could cause an accident if not bolted correctly. |
