Best turbo for my build?

Hi, I currently drive a Subaru Legacy Turbo 93, with the EJ20G engine.
I'm wondering on what turbo I should buy for it.

My demands are: A turbo that will get me to around 280-300 hp, has to be somewhat bolt on and not really expensive, but still good quality.

As today my car has this for mods:

- Exedy stage 1 clutch w/ LW flywheel
- Apexi intake
- 3" H&S turbo back exhaust
- Walbro 255 pump

But the plans are to buy 550 cc injectors, TMIC or FMIC and the Robs tune 550 cc tune.

Now I just need a turbo to reach my 300 hp goal, so any help is greatly appreciated.:luxhello:

TD05 job done. cheap as chips to buy and plenty around. they make anywhere up to 330 bhp with supporting mods and a good map. 440 cc yellows will be enough no need for 550 cc. these are cheap to buy also.

Okay thanks :-) But the easiest for me is to buy Robtune, and I'm not sure if the 440cc injectors will work with his 550cc tune...

And I see that the 20g is very popular here in the Norwegian forums and is more likley to come across than the 16g.. Is the 20g an overkill or is it good?

the 20g is more a 380+ turbo tbh, and it will be laggier.

If you're only after 280+ hp, then I'd personally look at a td04 turbo (the standard subaru fitment), as it is smaller than the td05 and will spool quicker.

20g would be overkill yes, 16g is what i personally would go for,

Or a 2nd hand vf35 would be a good choice also, there are other VF series but i dunno what power they achieve, a Vf35 would be responsive and see 330 odd

td04 runs out of puff at 280 bhp or so. td05 spools fine and is not particularly laggy. i have vf35 on my bug sti making 340 bhp and spools nicely.

Could pick up a decent used vf35 for £300

Thanks for the replies :) I personally think that I'm going for the td05 16g since I've heard so much good about it and it's in my price range..

I think I'll pick up a used one and maybe rebuild it. But I see people saying that the 550 cc is overkill, that I should use the 440cc instead.. But what is best? Using 440cc's without the proper tune for them, or the 550cc's with the matching tune?

Surely its never a good idea to use different injectors to the tune ??

only asking for trouble,

Whats the cost difference between vf and td05 ??

But won't the car run rich or is that based on what tune the car has?

I don't know the cost difference, but it's much easier to come by a td05 turbo than a vf turbo, but of course.. If I come by a vf turbo, I'm going to snag it, depends on what one though.

All based on tune and tbh if you dont map it after fitting different turbo and injectors it's a timebomb

You will find a VF35 in breakers for £300 they're common

But how do the newage 550 injectors fit on an older EJ20? I know the new age injectors are side feed, but are the old ones top feed?

My Td05 16g top entry made 350bhp with 440cc
