Not ghey, just really, really ugly in the flesh.

Saw one (In a cherry red) on Sunday. Don't think they look very good in the flesh.

MX5 looks far better

My MX rusted round the arches :-(

Pass a really rusty mx daily , not just the arches either , all round boot and rear window

ditchmyster 27 October 2016 06:56 AM

Sills go on them too apparently.

I don't think the MX5 was ever about speed, good job really as they will never break any records.

For me cars like this are about driving down the coast road on hot sunny days or disappearing out into the country side or up a mountain with a picnic basket and a blanket in the boot (because that's all that will fit in there).Always fancied buying one, sticking a boot rack on it with a leather suitcase strapped to it and doing a big European road trip, taking in places like Montecarlo, it's about romance and style, it's a bonus if they handle and stop, because the cars they're mimicking never did, they also weren't particularly reliable either, Triumph anyone.

The above post is far better enjoyed on a good motorbike !

Tell you what, the new RF is a really nice looking addition to the MX 5 range.

Beats me why Mazda have never stuck a decent engine in the MX5. You can fork out a few grand and make the standard MX5 quite a potent little car that still handles as well as ever. Come on Mazda, wake up!

It doesn't particularly need more power (kinda like the GT86 but that's a different story). Yeah you could turn one into a real weapon but most people wouldn't bother.

Well I've got an MX5 1.8 and I find it seriously under powered by any standards. It doesn't need to be super quick (and GT86 power would be more than enough) but it ought to be able to thrash my 306 turbo diesel runabout, but it can't.

Been there, done that, all over Europe and the UK on road and dirt, longest trip being down to Pamplona in Spain to see the running of the bulls on my Ducati Monster 900 way back in 1998, getting too old for all that these days, truth be told, it's a real ball ache doing the lot on a bike, if I were to do it all over again I'd chuck the bikes in the back of a decent sized van and actually enjoy them once I got there, as opposed to thinking fcuk me, I've got to do that all over again to get home. ;)

Maybe your cat is breaking down. 140 horse in a car that weighs little over a ton should be quicker than a 306 td, but that will have more torque.
My missus has a 1.8 nb, and that suffered with a failing cat, strangled the power until it couldn't pull much more than about 60mph, changed cat and all is fine. My son is quite impressed and thinks it goes pretty well when I give it the beans.
Nowhere near Subaru standard, but then it's more about the handling and it's more enjoyable to drive than the Subaru.

My mum has a new nd, it's only a 1.5 but has not far off the power of our nb, and they are supposed to be lighter as well. It's a great little car, it hasn't the torque of the 1.8 and I haven't really given it any wellie as it was still being run in when I last drove it, but it feels very similar to the nb to drive, but a lot better equipped and better thought out inside.
