JTaylor 29 July 2016 03:33 PM

Needs a set of Eibachs, obviously.

Go for the Abarth, you know it makes sense.

stilover 29 July 2016 06:28 PM

Overpriced MX5 for badge snobs.

hodgy0_2 29 July 2016 06:48 PM

Looks great imo, but is it simply a rebadged MX5

I like the 170hp engine in the Abarth, but colour-wise it doesn't come in the bronze. If it's just a map or uprated turbo I could probably get that done retrospectively. Also, I like the tan leather in the standard car which isn't available with the Abarth. I'd probably go with the lusso plus spec. (the BOSE appeals) and would fit a set of Eibachs from the off.

Hired something badged lancia while in Italy , apart from the badge there wasn't anything Italian much about it - probably wont die from rust though

A couple of grand more and I'd hardly call Fiat a prestigious brand versus Mazda.

Different engine. And it comes in bronze. I actually really like the styling of the MX-5, but there's something about the Fiat, a certain je ne sais quoi.

hodgy0_2 29 July 2016 07:46 PM

Yes, both good looking cars - but obviously it he Italian styling has it

Love the twin cam cover bumps on the bonnet - classic sixties styling

The 124 is the name of an old model isn't it

Certainly is. I think this is period:

Lovely.

lozgti1 29 July 2016 09:29 PM

One my favourite classics. And the new one is cracking.

Think was originally going to be Alfa Romeo who did it in partnership with Mazda but the bosses got huffy because it wouldn't have been built in Italy (I think that was the story)

Lovely.

That's the one

And looks good in period bronze too

(although back in the day that was indistinguishable from rust )

lozgti1 11 August 2016 10:11 PM

lol

wrx300scooby 15 August 2016 07:29 PM

Slated on mx5 forum, but I like it. Especially this

I like it. You won't see as many on the road as mx5's and it's different enough to look at. It's a bit like the gt86/brz thing.

Saw one in the flesh.Lovely

Think Fiat got the styling right,Mazda got it wrong (from someone who had an mx)

Yeah, I saw a red one t'other day; looked good. Anyway, I put it to the missus, but she's vetoed the idea. :(

lozgti1 22 September 2016 10:25 PM

Tell her to have a glance at the Abarth.Fiat done an amazing job of going back to the 60's

Fabioso 26 September 2016 11:38 PM

All the reviews I watched were not very complimentary about the engine. It seems to suffer from turbo lag. I prefer the looks of the mx5 and the Fiat doesn't have a LSD so it won't be as good when pressing on.

Less of a drivers car than an mx5 but then plenty of people buy SLK's.....so when did a focused drive matter to style conscious hairdresser types? :p

lozgti1 30 September 2016 10:48 PM

lol.Reality is,brilliant as mx5 is,I found it to be the most mind bogglingly slow car I have ever owned or driven.

Fun at a roundabout. Not fun when the milk float overtook you.....

greenonedave 20 October 2016 05:53 PM

I owned a 1968 124 sports coupe, 1400 twin over head cam engine, needed a mirror to adjust the points gap, sky blue, loved it to bits. Blew the engine up twice.

My MX5 is certainly pitifully slow and my elderly 306 turbo diesel, kept as a runaround, gives it a good run for its money. How sad is that?

dpb 21 October 2016 08:28 PM

different layout but both great chassis

Yes, same chassis as the 306 gti I believe. Very chuckable little car, but then so is the MX5, its saving grace.

lozgti1 23 October 2016 07:51 PM

Lol.At the end of the day,two bloody great cars on the market.

Funnily enough,Top Gear mag seemed to be leaning towards the 124....

Matty81 24 October 2016 09:44 AM

i wouldnt get one because its a fiat!!

lozgti1 24 October 2016 11:27 AM

Think Fiat owns ferrari! I'd have one of those.lol

Matty81 24 October 2016 12:04 PM

My missus had a 500. Decent car but wouldn't buy any others. Just my preference really

lozgti1 24 October 2016 08:04 PM

My ex missus has a 500 too

Thing is rusting and falling apart after 2 years!

I'd love an Aifa but same things put me off :(
