Buying a Impreza WRX blob eye

Hi I'm looking for a blobeye WRX with no engine mods, preferable Full service history for my next car and could use some advise for what to look for or to avoid.

I've found one with 1 owner from new and full Subaru service history but it's just over 150,000 miles and worried it's getting on a bit?

Any advise would be good,

Cheers

Kyle

That is way too expensive for a UK WRX. You can get better, with lower mileages and for less money.

If you really want it the garage quoted in the handbook may be a good place to start for a bit of feedback. But at 150k it will be feeling a bit wooly.

Here's the MOT history which looks pretty good.

I live about 10 mins from the first ad, MX5 city, They have been there years. I haven't heard any feedback about them, good or bad.

The first car is a high price considering the mileage. Yes, it's one owner and FSH, but its done 150k. Just think of all the components that will be passed their best and might need replacing soon. It might have had no expense spared and be in 'as new' condition

The second one looks a decent price for the mileage, last of the cheaper tax too :thumb:

ditchmyster 24 July 2016 06:51 AM

Bloody hell are prices really that strong, be selling my WRX wagon PPP in a week or so when I drive it back to the UK, 127k miles, needs a cambelt but was only going to ask £2.5k for it which I think is a fair price, but looking around seems I'd be letting it go quite cheap at that.

Kyle_IOM 24 July 2016 10:14 AM

Was ideally looking for a saloon in blue, found one that was perfect but it sold before I managed to get the money sorted.

Silver one looks alright said he'd take 5 for it aswell it's just not looking any less silver =/

also he said the drivers side window doesn't work and he thinks its just a switch, does it sound cheap to fix?

BoozyDave 24 July 2016 10:57 PM

He said cam belt done, when was it done? It should be on it's 3rd now, original at factory, 2nd at 5 years or 60k whichever is sooner, 3rd at 10 years or 120k whichever is sooner. So, on age, it should have been done between September 2015 and end of February 2016

If the window not working is an easy fix, why not fix it?
I'd rather spend £10 on a new switch and sort it, and then not mention it a for sale ad :cuckoo:

If he thinks it's only the switch, tell him to sort it :thumb:

Kyle_IOM 26 July 2016 12:23 PM

I've decided against all of them ones and have found a really tidy one, just waiting to find out if its had the belt done and the rest of it looks really tidy:

£2.5k is the right price. But obviously you can ask whatever you like. Ignore dealer's taking the piss.

So I've found one I'm going to look at on Sunday

It's a 2003 on 48k miles with 3 owners from new,it's due its second cambelt and he's asking £4500.

i am by no means an expert but £4500 seems very steep, also, 2nd cambelt at only 48k? :wonder:

Kyle_IOM 27 July 2016 10:46 PM

as far as im aware its every 50k miles or 60 months its needs changing?

john_d 27 July 2016 10:55 PM

my bad, i misunderstood , believe u are correct

Mine's one owner from new and 57k mile and Webuyanycar are giving me £4700 for it on monday (they've seen it, so that's a final price). The residuals really are that strong for a good one - I was surprised! Probably worth a grand more on the private market, which is considerably increased over a couple of years ago! :notworthy

Yeah that's pretty much what I thought.

Mine is no oil painting either, it's been my daily for the last 5yrs so got the usual stone chips and door dings, most of which it had when I bought it. It's not something I care about though as it's almost 12yrs old between that and the milage it's to be expected, I also care more about how a car runs than how it looks, after all you can tart the body up for a grand but a decent rebuild costs about £4k, big difference. ;)

Might give we buy any car a call. :lol1:

You bought one yet OP?

P.S; Cambelt is 60k or 5yrs but don't worry too much about it as Subarus aren't hard on cambelts and they don't come with a date stamp either. ;)

so a 94k 03 plate should be due another belt change at 120k?

Mine is currently 5k miles and about 2yrs out of date and it aint snapped yet, ;) I'll be heading back to the UK in a few hours, which is a 1300 mile trip ask me if I'm worried about the cambelt :wonder: :nono: but like I said the car has been mine for 5yrs and I know it's not had the 4r$e ragged out of it so I'd rather take my chances with the one I know is ok along with the tensioner and idlers I know are ok as opposed to fitting "NEW" ones that "may" or "may not" be.

But hey like I said on another thread, to some people a folder full of receipts is a good thing, to me it just signifies a troublesome car. :thumb:

So, rather than spending £300 odd to get your belt done with genuine parts because there's a risk those parts might fail (?????), you'd rather carry on with a Cambelt and tensioners that have been on your car for 5000 miles and 2 years more than they should have been and therefore have a far greater risk of failing than brand new OEM parts?

So you're not prepared to change your belt kit because the new parts might be worse than the parts you replace? wtf! :lol1: :lol1:

An 03 reg should have had it changed in 08 and 13, so the next one is due in 2018, unless the mileage shoots up first

It's called 'preventative maintenance'. Replace certain perishable/degrading items at certain age/mileage, to avoid failure or inadequate performance of components

So, if you went to look at a 'low mileage' car. 03 reg and 11k miles. would you be happy that it has never had an oil change??????

A tight owner will only have something done when it's either essential or necassary. Not when it 'should be' done

The previous owner of my car wasn't tight and I'm not tight. My car is serviced regardless of mileage, only on age. If I did 500 miles in a year it would still be serviced :thumb:
