New tyres.. But which?

Need some new tyres full set of 4 235 40 18. Previously had Michelin pilot sport 3s and they were great. Just seeing what else is out there? I don't track the car so it's purely road tyres.

The wheel size is 18x8.5 et48.

stealthbomber 20 July 2016 09:25 PM

Not sure if they come in your size but I love the vredestein ultrac sessantas on my 17's, goodyear eagle f series were really good too.

Steve001 20 July 2016 09:28 PM

+1 sessantas :)

For the price Uniroyal Rainsport 3

£52 a corner for 225/40r18 at Camskill

TypeR99 20 July 2016 10:23 PM

Just put 225/40/18 Goodyear Eagle F1 on my classic with PFF7's after reading reviews but as I dont go out in the wet much I wish I'd gone with 215/35/18 Federal RSR's now after driving my mates RA with them on.

May take the goodyears off and sell as they've done less than 1000 miles and I'm impressed with the Federals

BoozyDave 20 July 2016 10:33 PM

+2 for sessantas :thumb:

They are the best tyre I have used, I always recommend them and get good feedback from people that have bought them :thumb:

I use Uniroyal Rainsport on my van and they are good, loads better than the hedgehunter plastic max tyres that were fitted when I bought it

The only other tyre I would buy is F1 asyms

Lick your finger and stick it in the air.

Tyre technology moves quickly, not long ago Proxes were king, then Bridgestone atc etc. Read the Which Magazine reviews as everyone drives (or think they drive) like Lewis Hamilton on SN and drive at 10/10th all the time.

Stay away from Linglong, Marshall, Autogrip, Wanli, Jinuy or the various other bringers of death.

PMSL

Anyone know if I can get away with a 245 40 18 on a 8.5j? Car is lowered 30mm?

Cambs_Stuart 21 July 2016 02:26 PM

I've just had a set of goodyear F1 asymmetric 3's fitted to my blob wagon and based on the 30 miles I've done so far they're great. Quite, but still with decent grip and feedback. I have had a chance to try to push them yet, or try them in the rain but so far they're an improvement over the re050 that were on previously.

Great tyres on the Impreza

Goodyear F1
Setannas

Budgets

Uniroyal Rainsport - these are one of the best tyres Ive ever used, I fit them to all my cars now, for £75 a corner fitted, great bang for the buck, and brilliant in the wet - ideal for the UK
Falken 452's

I did like Avon ZZ3's, but the road noise was horrendous.

SmurfyBhoy 21 July 2016 02:53 PM

Still savings to be made tho unless your over £20 a tyre for fit and balance

Trinity 21 July 2016 02:55 PM

London fella. My garden shed is priced higher than your house :)

SmurfyBhoy 21 July 2016 02:58 PM

You have a garden with a shed in London yet drive a Subaru ?

Or do you rent the Shed as your home ?

No factual elements in either of those statements.

Cambs_Stuart 21 July 2016 03:22 PM

Ps. Cheapest High St place I found for Goodyear F1's was halfords. £80 each for 225/45 r17 fitted.

The Trooper 1815 21 July 2016 03:31 PM

I had Bridgestone S001's x 4 225/40/18 n COSTCO for £270 including VAT and fitting.

jonnyboy82 21 July 2016 04:00 PM

Oooh gone a bit off subject here...:lol1:

This I need to know too peeps!

CharlySkunkWeed 21 July 2016 05:23 PM

Don't rate the Goodyear F1s in the wet at all. Had Vredstein Sessanta on my last scoob that were great , and Vredstein Altrac Vortie on my FR LEON that were great too.

Michelin Pilot Sport 4's came out in January.

I had the Michelin PS 3's on my ST220. They were pretty good, but didn't last very well. Especially on the front.

Ive got the PS3's on mine, they're wearing well. Those ST's are a killer on the front axle lol. In tests for longevity the PS4's came second to a Good Year but came top on pretty much everything else from what I was told on a presentation at Silverstone Porsche Centre.

Here's a link from an independent test.
