Scooby worx SWRD fuel pump failure
 

Well that was a nice journey home , my 3 year old SWRD fuel pump failed on the way home from santapod !!!!

Not impressed , you buy these things expecting them to last and pop , not priming

Why do they fail when they are effectively still new ?

Aftermarket parts, nowhere near the standard of OEM kit and will never of undergone the rigorous testing procedures and RD.

Tbh, using aftermarket stuff should be expected that it will possibly fail, not sure why the concern or is it just to bad mouth SW? You're running a modified car and after three years something broke? Not really an issue in my book.

This pump has done less than 10k !

If it can't be trusted to last and cost me £100 in towing fees I wouldn't of bought it , I would of gone for a proper pump

What pump was it that failed ?

It's the SWRD 255LPH pump

It may be 3 years old but car wasn't in use for 8 of those months !

Did it literally sit still for 8 months ?
Like not even turned over ?

Could that play a part ??

I thought all the bad batch had been replaced ?
Makes the Subaru originals look a lot better, when they are lasting 10 years plus.

It's been back on the road for 12 mths since then , I replaced my gearbox , long job lol

My original fuel pump was in for 17 years , only replaced to this SWRD thing as I needed a better flowing pump , look how that panned out . Sheesh

Was this the same black and red pumps the still sell ??

You cant compare an aftermarket part to a Genuine OEM Subaru item, thats like comparing a Casio watch to a Rolex.

there should still be some comparable quality,

Walbro site says
"How long do your fuel pumps last?
Walbro fuel pumps should last between 10-20 years."

So why shouldnt other pumps, if they are as good as they are claimed to be.

Things break yes , after such little use if they do I class that as a faulty part !

Look at the 2.5 engine ?

Some blow some don't.

Could just be bad luck on your part ?

Yep, an aftermarket pump pumps faster, the OEM is heavier but more reliable.

There was a bad batch around the time I bought mine yes

It's one of the old pumps that Darell used to sell,possible it is one of the bad batch as it was around that time.
They stopped selling these pumps and replaced with the colossus,these new pumps now have individual serial numbers and are tested to a high standard afaik.
As said above,you always take a risk with aftermarket parts.
I would of contacted Darell as I'm sure he would have replaced,he seems to have honoured the others that went bad.

I have , he says its out of warranty and wasn't one of the faulty ones , conveniently .

He offered a discount on a new pump tho , once bitten twice shy comes to mind

That's unfortunate,10k miles isn't a lot.
I take it you have checked the usual wires and connectors are ok and it's defiantly the pump that's failed?

3 years old? expected lifespan of an aftermarket part.

Plus, why didnt you have breakdown cover when taking your car to a dragstrip to abuse, then expecting to drive home afterwards? that was plain stupidity really to be honest.

I had a Walbro that died after six months. Things happen. Live and learn.

Yeah , relay is good , looking back pumps been failing a while , AFR were getting lean at WOT last few weeks , there was me tweaking the map , changing MAfs etc and its this piece of crap fuel pump at fault !

Should of bought a decent pump in the 1st place like Walbro , lesson learnt

my scoobyworx pump failed 3 weeks ago. it sat in its box for over a year until it was fitted last december for a map with andy forrest. so only on the car 6 months and it died. contacted darrel and as it was still under warranty (just!) he stood by the warranty and sent out a new collossus pump to replace it. im guessing yours was one of the bad batch but unfortunately youve ran past the warranty period.

Afaik all the 255 pumps should of been replaced or checked as darrell dosent sell them anymore, only the 340 ones.

Did you see the threads/posts from darrell back then trying to locAte the dodgy batch?
Why didn't you speak out to check if your pump was one of them?

You've had it on 3 years now, I don't remember any lifetime warranty on them, but a discount on next fuel pump is generous imo
