2.0 Subaru Gobstopper
Hey guys,
Some of you might have heard of the Subaru 'gobstopper' (google 'Roger Clark gobstopper' for more info) which is a 780hp 08 STI which got the best time at the Goodwood Hill climb :luxhello: second time in a row (am I right?) and I did a bit of research on that car and found that it was running the EJ20 and not the EJ25. Im sure they used the 2.0 for a good reason but why did the people building the car put the 2.0 and not the 2.5?:wonder: My guess that it has something to do handling more boost pressure or the efficiency of the turbo (im just saying random stuff now so im probably wrong) Its just something I been thinking about and although I love lying in bed at night thinking about these very important things:Whatever_, I want to know for sure... and get sleep:lol1:. |
Gobstopper will probably be a 2.35 based on the 2.2 closed deck block.
The 2.0 and 2.2 closed deck block engines are far stronger than the 2.5 engines which are open deck (unless you use specialist inserts on the 2.5 block). |
Gobstopper 2 is a 2.0.... reliability is a key factor.
|
That's interesting. Hadn't realised that, I stand corrected. It's certainly no slouch! :D
|
Because only the 2 litre block afaik allows the wrc gas o ring conversion, removing the need for headgaskets and increasing reliability

I'm at RCM right now!
I congratulated Olly earlier on his epic 'win' over the McLaren P1 et al. Under his breath, he goes, "Yeah, they weren't that pleased." Lol, respect. Poor Don Rennis: must be sobbing into his Brandy as we speak. :D |

Love it lol. |
And a 100bhp nitrous kit :lol1:

Ask him why they've stopped selling the carbon fibre propshaft!
|
After the runs Saturday where he had already beat the field in changing conditions, he mentioned casually about adding a extra 100 bhp for Sunday with Nos lol
|
"I need NOOOOOS!!"
|
No You need £500k for a rebuild :)

^^^ Imported from the US? What duty and/or VAT did it attract? It's CTG in Oxford that made them for RCM...who sold them for £1650, No idea how much they are direct but I'd expect £1000-£1200 |

Maybe not though....the TT car has a 2.5 with WRC gaskets, Always used to be the case though but think they have gone the insert or 2.5 CDB route

Wasn't the TT car a 2.0l? I thought the engine/drivetrain was all lifted from an earlier WRC car.

Went for a remap at RCM a few weeks ago and gobstopper 2 had pretty recently been on the rollers and made 901bhp and as said its a 2.0. Revs to nearly 10k I think he said.

beating cars such as the mclaren p1.
It beat a P1 GTR LM on semi slicks driven by a Le Mans race driver. Also beat pikes peaks cars and the touring cars up the hill, plus some pretty epic 1990s 24 hour endurance cars. |

Also it's Clarks car so surely he will get best out it ?? Didn't beat Lobe when it was at its fastest, close tho, Great achievement for a small tuning company tho hats off |
