Fitting new discs on 6 pots.

I'm fitting some new front brake discs to 6 pots, these replacements came with the car when I bought it, EBC 326mm.

The discs that are on now have separate bells, the new ones are fixed.
I've only ever had 2 pot sliding calipers in the past so these big brakes are new to me.
I do know they're cheap poor quality compared to what's on the market,I am going to fit them for now tho.

Will they fit ok?
Or do I need the same as the ones on the car?

Cheers
Rich

You will need different discs.

They should be 2 piece discs to suit, with a fitting kit as you unbolt the old discs from the bells and chances are you will mash the nuts

ossett2k2 27 June 2016 01:53 PM

Thanks mate.
Wrong size anyway, just taken old ones off and they're 330mm,and to top it off one of the pads fell apart!! Won't be buying that brand!!

So looks like a hunt for a cheapish setup for now.

No I've used them lol

That's per pair on the Mtec website....

Gutting.

K sports are a false economy. way better off getting decent brakes. Pads are over 200quid a pair. Don't even entertain using the Ksport ones

I use the K-Sport 8 pot 356mm
with orangestuff pads £115

One of the best mods on the car.

Pagid rst3 are over 200 pound a pair. But they are better than anything I have ever used. Tried "decent" pads in them anything ebc was terrible; ds2300 were better but not great.

The rst3 are out of this world, cold bite is unreal and I've not managed to make them fade yet.....

They can lock the wheels at 130mph without really trying lol

Wouldn't say they were not "decent" pads
I have never felt like i need more stopping power
No fade even after multiple high speed stops,
Only downside of the orangestuff is the can be noisy.

Sure your were bled "properly" or not seized ?

ossett2k2 27 June 2016 04:32 PM

There are 3 types at 330mm on the Mtec site, not sure which ones i would need?
I will have a look at the options.
I'm guessing i can reuse my bells?

Take your old ones off and measure the pcd of the holes on the bells that and how thick i'm sure is how they go.

Every ebc pad I have ever tried has delaminatEd and been excessively noisy. The only thing worse was the k sport own brand where the friction material literally disintegrated.

The orangestuff faded badly after some normalish driving. The pagid pads will literally stand the car on its nose with very little effort. It is honestly night and day difference.

SmurfyBhoy 27 June 2016 04:41 PM

Never had fade with mine and i can honestly say when i jumped from my car to a new golf r i was shocked at how **** the golf brakes were in comparison.

As i says on the road i have never felt like brakes need improved,

Havn't tried the Pagid, only because i don't need them.

Wouldn't hesitate to replace with orangestuff again.

198mm PDC but they're 10 bolt and most iv'e seen are 12 bolt.
Looks like this is going to be a pain to find the right ones.

No,thanks for the link anyway.
I will give ASP or Godspeed a ring tomorrow.
I can't even find the pads as some of the part numbers are missing.

What brand are the 6 pots?

HI
It is a Scoobyclinic kit , you won't get discs or pads for them , we can make you discs to fit the bells , but pads are not available , with the likes of K sport , at least they copied the pad shape from AP , the scoobyclinic kit uses a pad no one else uses , in the past we have had customers send in worn pads , we can send them off and have the backing plates stripped of pad material , and new pad material bonded on , takes a couple of weeks to have done , the only other way is to buy a larger pad , and machine it down to the same shape as the scoobyclinic pads.

Pain in the ass !

Cheers Ian

ossett2k2 27 June 2016 07:02 PM

Thanks Ian
That's not good news!
It's currently got the yellow stuff pads in there as the pic shows, can't seem to match any of the numbers up tho. Will this mean they are discontinued or they've been machined as you say?

What price are you to make discs to suit?

Hi Ian,

That is wank.....

So we're ebc commissioned specially to make the pads above then?

Do scooby clinic not make this anymore?

Scoobyclinic do a 6pot setup but it looks like a newer version.
I will give them a ring to see if my old ones will be compatible to their new discs&pads.

Godspeed Brakes 27 June 2016 07:23 PM

Hi
If you call scoobyclinic for parts , they usually tell you to ring me , we can make discs to fit the bells , they are £350 a pair inc vat.
Yes I believe EBC did make some pads up for them , but then stopped as there wasn't enough call for them , they are slightly longer than an AP shape pad , so the AP pads don't hold in the caliper properly and fall through the pad plates.
Cheers Ian

ossett2k2 27 June 2016 07:36 PM

Wow this is sounding expensive lol
Choosing and getting the pads machined plus bespoke discs,it might be cheaper to buy new calipers :(
Possibly sell my 6 pots,,but if you can't get pads or discs then unlikely they will be snapped up!

nikon-man 27 June 2016 07:41 PM

how long have you had the car then as you say they were on there when you got it ??

and I am guessing the person who sold it to you never mentioned the problem when you changed discs or pads

Sounds very unlikely unless you put them on eBay and are sparse with the truth....

It would be cheaper to buy decent aps. K sports are a false economy and very expensive to maintain compared to the AP etc
